Boss Fights in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is an action-packed game. The sequel features several formidable enemies who pop out at every turn. The action is especially intense when fighting bosses. Each boss in the game is unique and has one or more outstanding abilities and attack tactics. However, some bosses are more formidable than others, making them more challenging and fun to fight.

You fight a boss at the end of every chapter in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Read on to familiarize yourself with the five best boss fights in the game and learn crucial tips to help you win.

5. Midgardsormr

Midgardsormr

Midgardsormr is one of the fiercest bosses you encounter early on in the game. This monster is the boss in Chapter 2: A New Journey Begins, and fighting him is mandatory. He is a colossal serpent with an intimidating appearance.

This boss has sharp fangs loaded with toxic poison that he can use to poison the swamp water, exposing everyone in the water to devastating AoE damage. Moreover, his mouth shoots scorching fireballs that also inflict considerable damage. Last but not least, his signature attack entails coiling around your party members and swallowing them whole.

Midgardsormr is vulnerable to ice. As such, equip your characters with the Ice Materia and cast enough ice spells to pressure the serpent. Notably, you can play Aerith to use the Guard Stick’s Arcane Ward to cast two simultaneous ice spells, causing twice the amount of damage. You can also use Barret to summon Shiva for tons of ice damage. However, it is worth noting that nothing short of a Blizzaga will pressure the serpent in hard mode. Interestingly, Midgardsormr is also vulnerable to synergy abilities.

4. Dyne

Dyne

Dyne is one of the most formidable foes that Barret must fight alone in Chapter 8: All That Glitters in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Interestingly, he was once best friends with Barret, but that changed when he lost everything he loved. He is now a cold-blooded executioner, driven by vengeance.

Fighting Dyne is challenging due to his impeccable abilities and attack tactics. He can launch his powerful Point Blank ability during close-range combat. Moreover, he can shoot Blast Mines around the arena to counter your evasion movements. Unfortunately, hiding behind cover doesn’t always help, as his Paralyzing Shot ground attack and Repentance laser attack easily go through cover. Interestingly, he covers his body parts with scrap metal when vulnerable, making him an even more challenging target to take down.

Fighting Dyne mostly involves hiding behind cover and timing your attacks to maximize their impact. Fire is his weakness, so you can equip the Fire Materia and use fire spells to pressure him and deplete his HP. Alternatively, you can unlock the Folio Skill Tree to acquire fire attacks. Finally, you can summon Ifrit to inflict enough fire damage to help finish Dyne off when he starts staggering.

3. Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh is an optional boss. Understandably, many players prefer skipping him, considering the strict requirements for challenging him and his deadly abilities.

Unlocking Gilgamesh is challenging enough, let alone beating him. First, you must collect all Protorelics from the six different regions and acquire all summon materials from the combat simulator. If that's not enough, getting to  Gilgamesh Island is tough. You can only get there using a tiny, unreliable Bronco. Finally, you must beat the Summon Bosses all over again when you get there.

Gilgamesh’s appearance may seem goofy, but he is a master at inflicting physical damage. Moreover, his Genji shield is efficient against all attacks. To this end, fighting him is quite challenging and involves launching strategic, precisely timed attacks. Fortunately, he has many weaknesses that you can exploit to your advantage.

2. Rufus

Rufus

Surprisingly, Rufus is one of the most dangerous bosses in the game, despite his plain appearance. One thing to keep in mind is that he doesn’t have any weaknesses. He has a wide range of attack tactics and boasts one of the most efficient counter-skills. The combination makes him quite challenging to take down, especially considering that you only have Cloud to work with in the one-on-one fight.

Basic melee attacks are inefficient against Rufus, as he can easily grab and shoot you. He also has the upper hand in long-range fights, thanks to his long-range shotgun equipped with homing bullets that can track you. Moreover, he has a fierce backup ally that comes to his aid when his HP drops to 40%. Darkstar attacks and distracts you, taking the heat off Rufus and enabling him to launch lethal attacks. Notably, he has many more tricks up his sleeves, and you must always be on guard.

Considering his lack of weaknesses, beating Rufus requires a strategic approach based on precise timing. Striking him with basic attacks and weak abilities as he reloads helps pressure him. Following up with stronger abilities as he reloads immediately after attacking you can also cause staggering. It is also important to sever the link between Rufus and Darkstar to level the playing field towards the end.

1. Sephiroth Reborn

Sephiroth Reborn: Boss Fight in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Sephiroth Reborn is the last boss in the game and, naturally, the toughest one. Interestingly, he is a mutant-like, monstrous version of the one-winged angel Sephiroth, and you fight him in both forms.

First, you must fight Sephiroth as Zack and Cloud. However, Sephiroth soon transforms into his reborn form, and you must fight him solo as Cloud. Sephiroth Reborn then picks a fight with the whole party before focusing on Zack for a solo one-on-one fight. Finally, you must finish off the monster as Cloud and Aerith.

Fighting Sephiroth Reborn is challenging in multiple aspects. Most notably, he doesn’t have any weaknesses or intel, forcing you to go in blind. Additionally, he is huge and has many efficient abilities that he can use to cause significant damage. Last but not least, the fight is dynamic and players change quickly, causing confusion. Fortunately, you can work with multiple characters, enabling you to combine their best features to beat the monster.
