Best Comedy Games on Xbox Series

Why so serious? Comedy games are a perfect way to unwind after a long day at work. These are games that don't take themselves too seriously, with plenty of lighthearted humor and gameplay designed to put a smile on your face. Even when they are stern, they do so in unexpected ways that feel expressive and unrestrictive. Comedy games are becoming more popular on mobile devices. However, there are a good number of games on the Xbox Series X/S that you can play just for fun. Here are the best comedy games on Xbox Series X/S in April 2023 that you won't want to miss.

5. Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 - Official Cinematic Launch Trailer

Borderlands is famous for its unique sense of humor amidst a mayhem-ridden universe. The developers’ take leans heavily on dark, irreverent humor. But that route has worked quite well with many more Borderlands games making their way to several platforms. Borderlands 3 features a colorful cast of returning characters who often exude eccentric behavior in exciting ways. They’d often make references to pop culture and devise witty one-liners you’ll likely remember long after you’ve put your controller down.

From start to finish, Borderlands 3 grips your attention, particularly thanks to its incredible writing. Even the game’s antagonist receives love and cares with a finely crafted sarcastic, snarky demeanor. To seal off the package is Borderlands‘ typical over-the-top action that never gets boring. Weapons unleash absurd effects, and the creatures of this universe don’t spare you from enjoying a good laugh.

4. The Outer Worlds

THE OUTER WORLDS Trailer (2019)

Most players assume sci-fi games to be serious ventures. Dominating the galaxy surely wouldn’t have people joking around. Well, The Outer Worlds is determined to stand out from the rest. Despite being a sci-fi action single-player RPG, the developers infused within its story plenty of humor and satire, too.

Granted, The Outer Worlds' sense of humor may not make sense to everyone. It’s often a dark and absurd take on sci-fi and RPG-related conventions. Still, it’s well worth the try. A few hours in-game, and you’ll have met lots of characters with unique personalities, individual quirks, plenty of witty one-liners, and clever wordplay. All in all, The Outer Worlds adopts a comedic storyline that still maintains a compelling narrative and engaging gameplay experience among the stars.

3. Psychonauts 2

Psychonauts 2 Launch Trailer

Platform lovers will enjoy Psychonauts 2 for its quirky missions. The game follows Razputin “Raz” Aquato, a young, powerful psychic and trained acrobat. Raz has grown up wanting to join the international psychic espionage organization called the Psychonauts. But the Psychonauts themselves are in trouble. Their leader, recently rescued from a kidnapping, is changing. Plus, there’s a mole hiding somewhere in headquarters.

So for his first mission, Raz sets off to find the mole, which leads to uncovering a series of mysterious conspiracies. He journeys inside the minds of both friends and foes, helping them battle their inner demons and unlocking hidden memories crucial to his mission. Every new discovery leads him to consecutive missions that grow quirkier by the day. Before he knows it, Raz finds himself in too deep and in the crosshairs of a murderous psychic villain.

Psychonauts 2 never lets itself get too serious, though. It often finds ways to marry danger, fun, and tons of laughs. Infused in its story are lots of clever, cinematic mixes of horror and compelling twists and turns. All along, you’ll find the most absurd situations delivered in witty lines and a unique sense of humor.

You’ll run into eccentric characters with intriguing personalities. Plus, the characters and objects, too, will present such absurd imagery, ridiculous costumes, and moving in unexpected, funny ways. Overall, it’s near impossible to not appreciate the offbeat, irreverent humor strides the game takes.
