Synergy Abilities in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Square Enix has mastered the art of keeping video game fans entertained and engaged with their long-standing series, Final Fantasy 7. Premiering in 1997 as a role-playing game, Final Fantasy 7 has seen several iterations. These include FF7 upgrades and releases to the new trilogy series, beginning with Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade. The Intergrade version was FF7 Remake’s update, featuring more game content, advanced gameplay, and technical performance. However, it is the second entry in the trilogy that has captured the entire FF7 fandom with unmatched intensity.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth landed on February 29, 2024. In less than a month, the title has received immense audience attention. The game comes with amazing graphics, a host of ways to experiment, and an incredible combat system. In addition to its pool of unique player skills and abilities and the iconic synergies, it is no wonder the game is viciously setting its mark in the industry. While there’s a lot that players can do with synergy skills and Materia, synergy abilities are rare and even more exciting to use. Here are the 5 best synergy abilities in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth you might want to try.

5. Avalanche Two-Step

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - Avalanche Two-Step

Barret Wallace is the leader of the Avalanche group, the eco-terrorist insurgent team that seeks to save the planet from the energy exploitation of the Shinra company. It's no wonder the Avalanche Two-Step Synergy ability idolizes Barret and his fellow party member Tifa in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s party level 2.

Barret ranks highly on defense and health, allowing him to take much damage before getting knocked down. His powerful nature makes him a perfect ally for drawing the attention of foes. Once you bring the enemies close, Barret then swiftly applies the Avalanche Two-Step Synergy, dealing fatal damage to enemies.

With the synergy requiring two characters in the same party, Tifa stands as the best fit. Teaming up with Barret, the duo delivers massive damage to enemies at any given time. By maximizing their attack power, this synergy ability ensures the duo strikes with so much strength to greatly devastate the opponent. Staggered enemies suffer the greatest damage. Notably, the ability prolongs the stagger duration, thus weakening the opponent's chances for survival.

4. Divine Punishment

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Use Tifa Aerith Synergy Ability Divine Punishment

Unlock the Divine Punishment synergy ability in Aerith’s portfolio and enjoy a boost on their limit levels with her partner, Tifa. The duo is available to players in the Mythril Mine. Once acquired, the duo gives you a chance to equip and utilize the Divine Punishment synergy.

With Divine Punishment, Aerith and Tifa team up to shoot a ton of Aerith’s magic. This comes with an additional perk: raising the limit levels. Aerith creates a temporary magic field that traps enemies inside, allowing Tifa to take them down quickly. Raised limit levels allow players to quickly access the level 2 limit break, providing the party with temporary immunity against physical attacks.

Cloud joins them in the short dungeon. Even without boss fights, launching Aerith’s strong magic attack is worthwhile, considering that she doesn’t have healing with this ability.

3. Sweet-And-Sour Salvo

FF7 Rebirth - All Synergy Abilities Showcase

Sweet-and-Sour Salvo is unlocked on Aerith’s folio and performs best when teamed up with Barret. The synergy ability comes a bit later in the gameplay, at party level 5. However, the patience is worthwhile. Going into combat with this ability is highly rewarding.

It’s among the synergy abilities that are both entertaining and tactical to use. Aerith is known to crush at the slightest strike from a larger foe. Therefore, as long as Aerith is on the party, a synergy ability that maintains a distance from the enemies is preferable.

Aerith and Barret can launch massive attacks from a safer distance, unleashing intimidating and devastating offenses on their enemies. Besides the ranged attack, Sweet-and-Sour Salvo deals more devastating damage to staggered enemies and prolongs the time that the foes remain staggered. It’s undoubtedly a win to have this ability, which also comes with amazing animation.

2. Mayhem-Go-Round

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - All Team Synergy Abilities (Demo)

If Barret is your favorite character for synergy abilities, you have yet another fun ability to use with him. This time with Cait Sith. While it may appear extremely awkward teaming up Barret with this tiny cat, who is a luck-based combat system character, you must have them in your party to execute Mayhem-Go-Round.

You will have to unlock it on Cait Sith’s folio in party level two and then proceed to see its mode of attack, which also feels a little whimsical. The synergy ability’s name makes sense, though, from the spinning double attack mode.

Barret hops on top of Cait Sith’s spinning Moogle, with his cannon also spinning around. The rotating Moogle’s mouth laser and the cannon blast everything and anything that crosses their paths with the long-range lasers. The ability makes for a large damage area, and you may not see any enemies close by by the time Barret and Cait are done launching this attack. It comes in handy when you want to clear a large enemy crowd without forgetting its ability to increase your limit level whenever you use it.

1. Firework Blade

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Cloud and Aerith Synergy Ability -Firework Blade

You will have to be at party level two to use this synergy ability that links up Aerith with Cloud. Cloud bears the firework blade that Aerith imbues with her magic, allowing them to deliver multiple ranged attacks, and it's almost obvious that Cloud goes a long way in protecting Aerith when the two are teamed together. He will always need time to get back to the fight, though, every time the synergy ends.

Besides the ranged attacks, the Firework Blade synergy ability also helps the duo achieve more powerful limit level breaks, unlocking Aerith’s Planet’s Protection Limit. With the protection limit unlocked, the entire party becomes immune to enemy damage momentarily, which is among the reasons this ability tops the 5 best synergy abilities in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
