Best Nintendo Switch Games of 2022, Ranked

Updated on

The Nintendo Switch has been home to many great titles in 2022. These titles are pretty different in the experiences that they offer the player. This variety is at the heart of what makes the Nintendo Switch unique. This year has been very kind to the console, which has seen many outstanding releases. This year, from faithful favorites to newer entries, these games have shown what the Nintendo Switch is capable of. So without further ado, here are our picks for the Best Nintendo Switch Games of 2022, Ranked.

5. Pokemon Legends: Arceus

While Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were released later in the year, in terms of quality, Pokemon Legends: Arceus performs better in almost every way. From the open-world design to the gameplay mechanics, this title proves that simply having a larger open world doesn't improve the game's core experience. While this title didn't receive as much attention as Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the world where Arceus takes place feels far more realized than the world of Paldea.

This isn't the only aspect where Pokemon Legends Arceus shines. However, as it connects the lore of the Sinnoh region to that of the past, this commitment to the lore makes the world feel more lived in. Especially when compared to the world of Paldea.  Players will have to be careful in the game's overworld, as Trainers aren't safe this go around and can be damaged by wild Pokemon. Speaking of the wild Pokemon in the game, they each have different behaviors that make them feel unique in the world. Overall, Pokemon Arceus was an ambitious stray from the Pokemon formula that deserved more recognition.

4. Mario Strikers: Battle League

Mario Strikers: Battle League

Mario Strikers: Battle League combines all of the fun elements of what made the original Mario Strikers so fun. While the game may lack certain single-player roster options, its mechanics have been improved, making the gameplay feel vastly superior to its predecessor. The over-the-top gameplay makes this game really addictive to play once you have mastered the learning curve. Players who are familiar with the Mario Kart series will find that there are similar mechanics to slip up your enemies in this frantic soccer game.

The roster of characters may have been a little light compared to what was expected at launch. But all of the characters feel unique in their own way. In addition, each has its own mechanics that need to be learned to succeed. Overall, if players loved the gameplay of the original Mario Strikers. Then there is simply more to love here, as the mechanics have been smoothed out. This adds to the game and makes for an overall better experience. All of these elements combine to make this one of the best games you can play n the Nintendo Switch in 2022.

3. Bayonetta 3

Bayonetta 3  is the highly anticipated sequel in the Bayonetta series. This entry sees the game improve in many aspects. One of these aspects is the gameplay which has benefitted from a ton of added mechanics. As well as polishing the Bayonetta formula. Players who fell in love with the smooth combat in these games certainly will not be disappointed in this latest entry.

Players who have become somewhat familiar with developer Platinum Games' commitment to fluid gameplay certainly won't be let down. As Bayonetta 3  proves itself to have some of the smoothest combat in the series. One of the most notable changes from the second game is a change of the voice actress for Bayonetta. Which has left a sour taste in some fans' mouths. All in all, however, this game is a perfectly serviceable sequel to Bayonetta 2. As it improves combat in almost every way. In addition, players can now access demon powers that add variety to the gameplay as you hack and slash your way through this wonderful title.

2. Splatoon  3

Splatoon 3 is a splat-tastic entry into the beloved game series. Players can find a lot to love within this game. Players who want a competitive experience will find a highly competitive multiplayer scene. However, if this isn't exactly your cup of tea, then the single-player offering is fantastic as well. The game features multiple wacky weapons to familiarize yourself with. This gives players plenty of room for progression throughout the game.

The third-person shooter mechanics in the game work wonders for the game's gameplay. Players can decide whether or not they want a PvP experience, as the game also offers PvE in the form of Salmon Run. Salmon Run is a wave-based horde mode that allows players to fight may different boss enemies with their friends. While the story is undoubtedly serviceable in this title, multiplayer combat is where this game shines. The single-player experience is reminiscent of the Nintendo, such as Super Mario. So if you are looking for a friendly competition wrapped in a cute aesthetic, then Splatoon 3 certainly does not disappoint.

1. Xenoblade Chronicles 3Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is an absolute masterclass in JRPG design and character writing. Serving as a closing of the narrative that has taken place throughout the other Xenoblade Chronicles games, this game does not disappoint in terms of giving the storyline a grand closing. While there may be a few graphical hiccups within the game, the story that the game tells and the gameplay within this title certainly make up for a few hitches.

The game takes place in a state of war between two different nations. The land of Aionos is at war, with two opposing factions leading the charge. There are two nations at war, Keves, and Agnes, with their own political and ideological differences. The world in which this title takes place also has the distinction of being the most extensive world within a Xenoblade Chronicles game.  So if players have not yet given the Xenoblade Chronicles series a try, then Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a fantastic place to jump in. This game's commitment to weaving a narrative throughout makes it one of the better story-driven experiences this year. It makes it worth the time of anyone even remotely interested in the JRPG genre on the Nintendo Switch in 2022.
