Pokémon Legends Arceus is a new, fan-made Pokémon game that has been taking the internet by storm. If you're one of the lucky few who have managed to snag a copy, or if you're just curious about what all the fuss is about, we are about to take you up on a ride. For newcomers the game might be a bit tricky to navigate especially if you want to beat the game quickly. It doesn’t help that the game doesn’t explain everything you need to know from the beginning. 

With the new release, one thing is for sure. That previous gameplays are enhanced! The old mechanics may also not serve you nicely. It’s great that we’ve got major changes and an impressive rework, however, with newer concepts and mechanics comes great responsibility to streamline your strategy and get off to an easy start. 

So if you we’ve compiled the essential tips you need to know to start your journey in the Bygone era of Hisui. With these tips, you’re sure to avoid making mistakes and traverse Hisui’s semi-open world with ease. 

So, here are five Pokémon Legends Arceus essential tips for newcomers. Let’s dive right in.

5. Take On All Quests (Side Quests)

As a newcomer, you may want to stick to selected quests. We do not advise you to go on this route. We recommend going through all the 30 main story missions and about 100 side quests. This ensures that you do not miss out on a Pokemon or an item you will need to get through to the final round. Even if you do not succeed in completing every last one of them, you will at least have a backup to go back to in case you need something from it. 

Keep in mind that there are almost 100 side quests to take on as well. It seems like a lot but the game can be pretty engaging too. In the long run, you will have more items like healing items, hairstyles, Poké Balls, and clothing that must be unlocked through side quests. Most of these side quests are found in the main hub of Jubilife Village, while others can be found while you’re out exploring. You can finish these in a matter of minutes and gain far much more. A good strategy to adopt is to take on a few side quests before progressing to the next level so you’re well prepared.

4. Take Advantage of the Farm

Crafting is a key part of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. In your expeditions, you’ll come to the Jubilife Village. Here, you can strike a deal with two farmers who own a single plot of land. Pay them a small fee, for which they’ll help you grow helpful resources like Apricorns. 

From here onwards, one of the farmers will be asking you to bring him Pokemon to help him with the farm. It goes without saying that while you build a good relationship with them, you’ll get to see growth in your returns. Furthermore, you don’t have to carry resources with you. You can always return and craft supplies in between missions whenever you feel the need to.

3. Collect Everything

A general rule of thumb in open-world games is to always collect everything. Since you never know what you might need in the upper levels of the game. There are most certainly a few essential things to consider. Especially when you have limited satchel space. Firstly, make sure to always collect medicinal leeks or special stones that you can get from tossing out your Pokemon. These are quite useful items when crafting things like medicine and Poke Balls. 

Another general tip is to make sure to carry only what you need. These include many Poke Balls and medicine. The rest can be deposited in storage. Using fast travel, you can make trips to offload the excess whenever your bag fills up. Ultimately, you’re better off having crafting supplies in excess, rather than too little. 

The game throws plus-sides to getting EXP for collecting stuff like ore, berries, and the like. Make sure to also pick up other players’ satchels. Oftentimes, when you get knocked out in battle and lose some of your essentials, you tend to find them in other players’ satchels. Getting your items back then earns you merit points.

2. Upgrade Your Carrying Capacity

While we’re on satchels, you may reach a point where you run out of space. Not to worry though, as you can always upgrade your satchel capacity. 

As you go on playing the game, you will gain access to a vendor who can upgrade your satchel space to carry more items. He’s a Survey Corps member in the Galaxy Team headquarters. His price will start small, and increase the more you upgrade your carrying capacity. So, always save your money for such long-serving needs. 

With a bigger satchel, you can make fewer trips to storage, or stay longer in the fields. You also stand to collect more crafting supplies that will come in handy in future missions.

1. Beware of Your Surroundings in Battle

Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduces an arguably, easy to catch Pokemon. You can choose to sneak up or charge towards a Pokemon and just throw a ball to secure them. However, this not-so-simple strategy can backfire on you. 

The best-case scenario is securing your new best friend. The worst-case scenario is the Pokemon becomes aggressive and seeks to unleash revenge on you. Even further, you may cause a chain reaction where you have to go up against a hive of similarly aggressive Pokemon. This happens when you alert them of your presence in your attempt to secure just one. In this case, tossing out your own Pokemon can be futile when fighting against multiple enemies.

Sometimes, you may not be able to see your adversaries as most battles take place in the overworld. Make sure to keep track of your surroundings and assess which opponent is attacking from where.
