The release date for Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 is still up in the air. We know it will be released at some point this year, however, that is a relatively large window. For now, we will have to hold our breath in anticipation. I know that may be a little difficult. Okay, very difficult. After all, the game was nominated as one of the most anticipated upcoming games in 2021.

It goe's without saying that if you are looking to play Zelda Breath of the Wild 2, and haven't played the original yet, then stop what your doing and go play it. It is arguably the best Switch game on the market and the reason the second game has so much hype.

If you have played the original already don't stress cause 2022 has brought us some great titles to the Switch. Meaning, you can tie yourself over until we get more information on Zelda Breath of the Wild 2. Or perhaps maybe you will find a new game to fall in love with. Don't worry we have you covered with the five best Switch games to play before Breath of the Wild 2.

5. Olli Olli World

If you aren't looking to jump into a full story and prefer a game you can pick up, then try out Ollie Ollie World. It is a 3D side-scroller skateboarding game that play's very fluently across levels and when performing tricks. You will fail utterly at the beginning as learning new tricks and getting the right pace is challenging. However, as soon as you perform one solid line, you are hooked to do better. before you know it you will be doing big air grabs, riding walls, and performing lengthy grinds and manuals.

What opens up the game, even more, is that each level has multiple paths. This give's you more variety and prevent's the feeling of being confined to one line. This make's the game super addictive because you'll always feel you can improve on a run. There is a challenging skill gap to the game but it rewards determined players. Once you get the hang of it, you'll constantly come back just to get that smooth consistent feeling of nailing a line.

4. Assasin's Creed: The Ezio Collection

Now if you really have some time to kill while waiting for Breath of the Wild 2, then spend it with Ezio. Assasin's Creed: The Ezio Collection is the first time the game is being offered on Switch. This isn't just one game but three across the collection. You will have all of Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, and Assassin's Creed Revelations to play through. If you're looking to really fill your time while waiting for Breath of the Wild 2, this is your best option.

For players with a Ubisoft Connect account, you will want to access the available uPlay awards. There is a handful of exciting armor and weapons from DLC that you can get free of charge. Just a little more of an incentive for you to dive into these games.

The gameplay is smooth and the game is very addicting with its movement. I mean you are playing as a highly-skilled Assasin after all. Anyways, if you never got to experience these games on console, they are definitely worth checking out for Switch.

3. Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Maybe you're looking to dive into another open-world game to get into the mood for Breath of the Wild 2. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a fun open-world with an extensive story. The game offers three various endings to the game, each one needing more hours for completion. Each one wraps up the story so you don't have to play through them all to get the full picture. However, the last two endings do offer a pretty alternate arc to the story. If you're looking at just completing the main story that's just fine as it is still at a comfortable length of roughly 20 hours.

I highly doubt you will complete it in that time frame as you will most likely be sidetracked looking for the best new Pokémon. This could also take some time as there are a total of 242 Pokémon scattered across Hisui. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is one of the most innovative games in the collection, with creative new ways to encounter and evolve Pokémon.

2. Metroid Dread

Up there with Zelda Breath of the Wild, is Metroid Dread. This is the first new Metroid title to be released in over a decade and it did not fail to meet expectations. It is already put in the all-time Switch games alongside Zelda Breathe of the Wild. The game is a fast-playing 2D side-scroller that gets progressively quicker with each power-up.

What's even better than the gameplay is the story. Samus has a compelling character arc which leaves him doing something totally unexpected. But you'll have to play in order to find out. What add's to the story are the visually captivating stages. The levels are very detailed and add to the atmosphere, pulling you deeper into the narrative. If you want to play a remastered classic then you won't be disappointed by Metroid Dread.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

If you were looking for that nostalgic Zelda feeling before Breath of the Wild 2, well here you go. One of Zelda's oldest titles, Skyward Sword, came to the Switch back in 2021 and is sure to fix your Zelda craving. I need to warn you, this game play's very different from Breath of the Wild, but that isn't a bad thing. Each level is open to exploring, but not in the conventional sense of an open world. Meaning you're pretty restricted to following the storyline. That is kind of the point as it holds true to the origin story of Zelda's universe.

The game may be old-fashioned but anyone who has appreciated the series will surely feel reminiscent while playing through it. The game holds true to the many traditions and heritages of the characters that so many fans fell in love with before. If you're looking to get immersed in Zelda's world before plaything Breath of the Wild 2, this is surely your go to option. You'll get a great backstory with context to the story of Zelda. There's only one issue, it might make you even more impatient for Breath of the Wild 2!
