Mario Strikers: Battle League

During today's Nintendo Direct, a new Mario soccer game for the Nintendo Switch was revealed Mario Strikers: Battle League. It was confirmed alongside a June 10 release date.

Battle League, like Super Mario Strikers, is a 5v5 soccer game containing offensive objects like shells and bananas. Additionally, the game contains special shots depending on the character you control.

Battle League will also have several pieces of unique gear. A player can equip every playable character with these gear to improve their stats and appearance. We see Mario wearing muscular metal armor that raised his Strength stat.as opposed to lighter equipment that appeared to incorporate a Dragon Ball Z-style scouter lens that enhanced his Passing stat.

Capturing an orb and powering up activates super strikes, hence launching a power shot that counts as two goals if it hits the net.

The reveal trailer also revealed a new technique called the Hyper Shot, which allows players to charge a super kick by collecting a specific orb on the field. If the kick is successful, it will count for two goals rather than one.

A single switch will support local multiplayer for up to 8 players. Online play will also be accessible. Additionally, “Club Mode” that allows you to invite others to join and compete globally will also be available.

The title will be the latest in the Mario Strikers series. Previously, Mario Strikers Charged was released in 2007 for the Nintendo Wii, while Super Mario Strikers was released in 2005 for the Nintendo Gamecube. Those two games, like the one seen today, were crazy soccer games with plenty of red-card-worthy shenanigans. The new game Mario Strikers: Battle League will be released on June 10.
