2024 has many new things in store for gamers, including brand-new sports games and new versions of popular sports titles. For example, American football fans have been waiting for a new version of NCAA 14 for over a decade now.

Fortunately, the wait is almost over, as some fantastic new titles have launched or are scheduled to launch within the year. Here is an overview of the five most anticipated sports games of 2024.

5. Skate 4

The Electronic Arts (EA) CEO announced that Skate 4 was in the works and would launch soon during a Q3 2022 earnings call. Skate fans have been waiting since 2010, and we expect the latest version to come out in mid- or late-2024.

You will be able to pull off various types of sick moves on Skate 4, such as flips, rotations, grabs, and grinds. Interestingly, the game will also feature a multiplayer mode, enabling players’ characters to interact for a more engaging playing experience. Moreover, it is expected to support community-created content, facilitating more interaction among players. Notably, the game is set in an entirely new location, a vast and vibrant city dubbed San Vansterdam.

While EA hasn’t announced a precise launch date for Skate 4, which is expected to be mid-to-late 2024, they have leaked lots of early in-development footage to give fans a taste of what to expect. However, it is worth noting that the game is still in development, so the current footage may not be as appealing as the final product.

4. Rugby 24

Rugby and sports fans were disappointed when the much-anticipated Rugby 24 failed to launch in November 2023. However, the anticipation will soon come to an end as the game is only days away from launching on January 30, 2024. Interestingly, Rugby 24 will launch on the eve of the Six Nations tournament, giving rugby fans more to work with this season.

Big Ant has a reputation for keeping its ongoing projects under wraps, preferring to surprise gamers. Unfortunately, this has been the MO with Rugby 24, so little is known about its features. However, the developers have revealed that it will be the most detailed version of the series and all other rugby simulations to date.

Notably, the game will integrate all licensed rugby teams, covering over 15 leagues and 130 countries. Interestingly, Big Ant said that it postponed the initial release date because it was still working on getting 3D photo captures of all players and enhancing the gameplay design. The game will be available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5.

3. Football Manager 2024

Football Manager 2024 (FM24) launched in November 2023. However, it is relatively new and scheduled to undergo updates and new improvements during the course of the year, making it one of the most anticipated sports games of 2024.

FM24 features a few exciting improvements over the previous versions. Most notably, the game’s match engine is moving to Unity over the course of 2024, facilitating more realistic in-game animations and overall graphics. Moreover, the new version also includes women’s football, complete with detailed player profiles and performance stats.

While the current match engine looks a bit basic and dated, Sports Interactive has already integrated exciting new features that will dramatically improve the overall playing experience once it moves to Unity. It is also available on many devices, including PC, Mac, PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Tablet. Overall, this is the most complete and detailed version of Football Manager to date.

2. EA Sports College Football

College Football 25 - Reveal Trailer

EA Sports College Football is one of the most anticipated sports game releases of 2024 and the decade, considering that the last version came out in 2013. Fortunately, the fans’ patience will be rewarded, considering the quality of features and level of detail that will go into the new version.

Notably, EA Sports College Football will feature characters inspired by real college football players’ names, images, and likenesses (NIL). It will also retain some of the features from the previous version, including Road to Glory and Dynasty Mode.

However, it is still unclear how many college players will opt into the game, but the pay and perks are attractive, and you can expect to see your favorite stars on the screen. Moreover, EA has been tight-lipped on other major features, and we’ll have to wait a bit longer as the game is scheduled to launch in the summer. Moreover, it is highly likely that the game will be exclusively available on Xbox Series X|S and PS5.

1. EA Sports FC 24

Besides American college football, EA is also on track to launch a new and different version of its popular international football video game, FIFA. Understandably, it is a surprise for many fans, considering that FIFA has been around for over two decades and is the world’s best-selling sports video game, with a spot in the Guinness World Record. However, fans are also anxious to explore the new version’s features.

The new version of FIFA comes with a new name: EA Sports FC 24. It also comes with several new features. One great feature is an AI-powered Hypermotion V that makes the playing experience more intuitive and the graphics more realistic. It will also include an exclusive Ultimate Teams feature designed to enhance players’ creativity and innovation. Other notable new features include Tactical, Visions and Evolutions.

However, EA is still in partnership with other football partners, despite falling out with FIFA, so EA Sports FC 24 still retains most of the features of the current and past FIFA versions. For example, players will enjoy the same game modes as in the prequel. The modes include Career Mode, Tournaments, Practice Arena, Seasons, and Skill Games, among others. Moreover, you will find all your favorite players from the best leagues, such as the EPL and La Liga.
