Best Aerial Troops in Warcraft Rumble

It’s all well and good being able to flesh out your army with a mixture of stat-boosted ground and ranged units, but without a sturdy aerial unit or two to watch your six, you’ll come to find that, gameplay-wise, Warcraft Rumble really isn’t all that easy. Not to worry, though, as Blizzard Entertainment’s latest mobile entry has a surplus of aerial troops to unlock, level, and kit out with a multitude of abilities and perks. Question is, which ones should you aim to unlock first, and which of them should you cast aside?

If you are looking to acquire the perfect deck in Warcraft Rumble, and have already recruited the best ground and ranged troops for your army, then be sure to read on for a few more pointers. Here are the five best aerial units in Warcraft Rumble.

5. Harpies

If you’re planning on having only the one air unit in your permanent roster, then you should definitely aim to allocate the Harpies to it just as soon as the funds become available. Their purpose, simply put, is to swoop down into the battlefield and essentially tear their targets to shreds, leaving nothing more than a cloud of blood and haze in their wake. What’s more, they can also arrive on scene for as little as three gold, which means you can despatch them as often as you need to sweep the cluttered areas.

Harpies come in threes, which means, for three gold, you can despatch them to clean certain areas, including Guard Towers and Meeting Stones. And, while they are weak to area damage, they can, and often will move swiftly enough to evade most attacks, which means you won’t need to worry about being caught out by Tanks or other ranged units. You can also double their base attack power by acquiring the Talon Dive move, too, which can turn an already aggressive troop into an unstoppable force to be reckoned with.

4. SAFE Pilot

Yet another powerful air unit who can deal enormous amounts of damage is the SAFE Pilot, a one-piece aircraft designed to land crushing blows on impact. Again, for as little as three gold, you can one-hit enemy landmarks, including Guard Towers and Meeting Stones. In addition, they can also chew off a significant amount of damage from leader’s health bars, effectively making them the perfect troops to roll out at the end of any battle.

The good news is, you can get ahold of the SAFE Pilot relatively early on in the game. If you do manage to obtain the specialist, then aim to flesh out its attack power and unique traits as soon as the unit-specific Quests become available. You’ll also want to obtain the Gnomish Cloaking Device—a special trait that allows the unit to deploy a Cloak and Ambush on a nearby target in the aftermath of the initial explosion.

3. Drake

If you’re planning on setting the entire battlefield ablaze, as well as eliminating a batch of ground units along the way, then you’ll want to put all of your faith into the Drake and its ludicrously powerful fire abilities. Unfortunately, the Drake does cost an arm and a leg to deploy, but in spite of it being a costly unit, it certainly makes up for it with its overpowered base damage and additional perks, such as being able to send out additional Whelp Eggs to tackle ground enemies.

In addition to the Drake having an incredibly hefty health bar, the unit is also equipped with a tougher armor, and the ability to fly at high speeds. So, if you’re after the be all, end all of air units, then be sure to pour whatever Combat XP you can afford into upgrading its traits and strength whenever the resources stumble into your back pocket.

2. Gargoyle

The Gargoyle isn’t going to tackle enemy units, as such, but it will focus its attention on destroying strongholds, including Meeting Stones and Guard Towers. So, while you won’t be able to wipe out small armies with the Gargoyle in your deck, you will be able to tighten the gaps between your own base and the enemy’s, essentially making it the perfect end-game unit for most, if not all battles.

The good news is, Gargoyles come loaded with one of the highest health bars in all of Warcraft Rumble, which means, even when overwhelmed by a myriad of enemy troops, it can single-handedly wipe out its chosen target without onboarding massive amounts of damage. Again, you’ll want to save it for the latter parts of the battle, or for any situations that require demolishing a set amount of enemy structures.

1. Gryphon Rider

The Gryphon Rider is not only a cheap alternative to the likes of a Gargoyle or SAFE Pilot, but also a relatively high-powered air unit that can deal a surprising amount of damage from afar, too. Granted, it isn’t the best unit in Warcraft Rumble, but it’s definitely one of the best starter troops to acquire for the first twenty or thirty stages. After that, you’ll want to focus your attention on either obtaining better units, or pouring Combat XP into upgrading it to be the best it can possibly be.

If you can help it, aim to deploy the Gryphon Rider with a second air unit, if only to boost their overall efficiency and power. Failing that, then aim to use it only in situations that involve quicker combat encounters, and not, for example, in situations that’ll result in instant deaths and a significant loss of gold and assets.
