Wayfinder Niss Tips

Looking for the best mobility class in Wayfinder? Look no further than shadow dancer Niss. She’s a stealth-based character who needs quick movement to stay hidden. When it’s time to attack, she’ll waste no second, ripping through enemies with stunning precision and speed.

She needs to attack as quickly as possible because if any enemy manages to get to her, she can die rather quickly too. The best way to put your best foot forward is to avoid placing yourself in a tough spot. You also need to master speed. For Niss, it’s speed, speed, speed, all the way. Here are Wayfinder: best Niss tips to stay ahead of the game.

5. Know the Tools at Your Disposal

Niss wayfinder abilities

To make the most of Niss as a character, you need to learn all the tools at her disposal and use them the right way. Niss has four skills and one passive ability. These are curated around her lethal and swift nature as a shadow dancer. She gracefully weaves in and out of combat, manipulating the shadows as her weapon and defense. When used the right way, Niss can become a formidable force of darkness.

Let’s take a look at her skills, passive abilities, and signature weapon.

Skills

  • Shadow Step – Whenever you dash forward in a straight line, you’ll deal damage to all enemies in your path. After a few seconds, a Gloom clone will follow your trajectory, dealing additional damage to all enemies it passes through.
  • Umbral Aura – For the next three dodges, Umbral Aura will cause Niss to pierce nearby enemies with shadow magic. Additionally, nearby allies will also receive the Umbral Aura ability, but for one dodge.
  • Vengeful Shade – This allows you to become immune to enemy attacks while dealing damage to enemies around you for a short while. If you follow it up with a light or heavy attack, it’ll cause you to slam back down, inflicting more damage on enemies. If you follow with a dodge, it’ll cause you to backflip away.
  • Gloom Shroud – It ties in with Shadow Step, where for the next few seconds, you can use Shadow Step at no cost.

Passive

  • Lingering Shadow – Perhaps the only character with this passive ability, you can double down on your attack power for up to five seconds each time you dodge enemies successfully. Plus, your passive Lingering Shadow can stack up to three times.

Signature Weapon

  • Night’s Edge – These are dual blades that have within them the ethereal spirits of the fallen Duskal warriors. Niss can use them as an offensive weapon against enemies. Night’s Edge has a weapon ability called Dagger Fall. It allows you to form multiple daggers that orbit around you and launch toward all enemies within range.

4. Be on the Move

Wayfinder

As you may have noticed, Niss’ abilities all revolve around her always being on the move. Shadow Step needs Niss to dash forward to activate. Umbral Aura only works when she performs dodges. Vengeful Shadow needs you to actively attack enemies. Even Lingering Shadow only works if you dodge enemies successfully.

So, there's really no way around it. You need to always weave in and out of combat encounters and perform attacks and dodges to make the most of Niss’ rapid damage-dealing attacks. The good news is, so long as you’re on the move, your attacks will surely hurt.

3. Take Your Time

Among all the other characters in Wayfinder, Niss is arguably the more difficult playstyle to master. While this can be discouraging for you to pursue her, make sure to take your time to learn the ropes before quitting. Rest assured, it’ll be worthwhile to learn to maneuver gracefully on the dance floor of battle.

2. Level Up

Wayfinder Level

At their basic levels, Niss's abilities are pretty powerful. However, you can always level them up to bump up the attack and defense stats way higher. Because Niss relies heavily on mobility to stay alive on the battlefield, you may want to prioritize abilities that give you some mobility.

Below is a quick guide on how to allocate skill points as you level up.

  • Shadow Step
  • Vengeful Shade
  • Umbral Aura
  • Gloom Shroud
  • Shadow Step 2
  • Shadow Step 3
  • Vengeful Shade 2

As you can tell, Shadow Step is pretty important to make the most of Niss’ abilities. At level 1, it increases Niss’ Ability Power (AP) by 10% for six seconds. At level 2, the follow-up Gloom clone will have a 50% piercing effect, while at level 3, the follow-up will have an increased damage output of 15%.

Vengeful Shade, on the other hand, starts off by reducing damage intake by 30% for eight seconds. At level 2, though, it increases damage output by 10%.

1. Optimize Offense

Niss thrives on movement and damage. To make the most of the latter, you’ll want to use a blend of light and heavy attacks in battle. This will give you maximum damage output. Also, make sure to utilize your abilities in your attacks to supplement damage output.

If your heavy attack (flourish points) is at zero, you can perform four consecutive melee attacks, stacking them up to rack up as many flourish points as possible. This way, you can build up on the damage output.

Further, try to hold on until your flourish points reach three, which signals a full meter. This will allow you to execute a heavy attack, unleash bursts of damage, and activate damage boosts. Also, a fully charged meter allows you to trigger the Night’s Edge’s weapon ability: Daggerfall.

Lastly, you’ll want to keep track of your stamina and ability cooldowns. It’s vital to perfectly time Niss’ attack power buff and, as a result, optimize damage output. In the long run, Niss’ flair is all about effective mobility. It’s the only way for Niss to deal extensive damage and survive the intensity of the battlefield.
