Unawake – Everything We Know

Still up? Unawake is determined to take away insomnia for good. The game has been dubbed a “Skyrim and Doom hybrid,” set on testing your tenacity and will to survive. It aims to push you to the limits, test your combat skills, and leave you exhausted enough for a good night's sleep – or something close to it. 

Unawake is an upcoming game only recently unveiled to the public. It already looks promising enough to warrant questions about an exact release date, trailer, and more. So, we’ve scoured all we could find on Unawake and compiled them for you in our Unawake – Everything We Know article below.

What is Unawake?

Unawake is an upcoming action-adventure game currently in development by RealityArts Studio in collaboration with Toplitz Productions. The game plans to infuse the action RPG elements of games like Diablo 2 with the intense combat system of games like Doom. 

Furthermore, Unawake plans to incorporate deep character progression and feature a classic loot system. It’ll also add a compelling story to the mix that spans eons, summing up a promising action RPG we can’t wait to get our hands on.

Story

As the last bastion, players will hold the fate of the world in their gamepads. In a world ravaged by turmoil and war, they’ll master the courage to navigate Unawake’s treacherous lands to save humanity. 

Players will fight against formidable monsters from heaven and hell. They’ll punish or absolve enemies through intense FPS melee skirmishes.

The official description on Steam reads:

After an archaeological discovery on the grounds of an ancient city, it soon became clear that the dig site offered more than historical value and priceless artifacts. But nobody could have predicted what this extraordinary location would hold and what forces would be unleashed on humanity.

Trained for the sole purpose of entering the discovered underground structures, you descend into the unknown. Into a world that defies everything you know. Every step takes you deeper into madness, and while you discover the mind-bending truth, your reality and perception will be altered forever.

Gameplay

Unawake will feature a dynamic first-person melee combat system with deep character progression and a loot system. The combat will be frantic yet tactical, similar to games like Doom. The gameplay will also infuse a compelling story with side quests and vendors into your playthrough. 

Additionally, players will have access to a vast map. They will explore massive levels and uncover secrets that will alter their reality and perception forever. These levels will feature breathtaking environments and incorporate wild imagination.

You’ll have access to a wide array of weapons as you fight against monsters from heaven and hell. The weapons system will feature a deep customization system. Meanwhile, you’ll descend to the depths of the unknown. Here, you'll uncover a dark secret that will change the course of humanity forever.

• Story-based game progression: Discover an epic story spanning eons that effortlessly blends science fiction with history as well as dark fantasy. Survive in a dystopian end-time where you are the key to humanity’s survival in the everlasting war between the forces of heaven and hell.
• Experience-based character and skill progression: Level up, learn new skills, and use them to your advantage against your ever-evolving enemies.
• More than 20 skills to customize your way of play: How you fight through the never-ending onslaught is entirely up to you.
• Vanquish your enemies with a multitude of weapons: From your trusty sword to bows and arrows, you will find more than enough options to eradicate your foes.
• Customize your weapons to gain an advantage in relentless battles: Elemental effects and buffs will give you the edge against your opponents.

Development

Turkey-based RealityArts Studio is currently working on Unawake. Later, Toplitz Productions will publish the game. The developing team is planning to release a demo at the Steam Next Fest event on October 9, 2023. The demo intends to give gamers an overall idea of Unawake’s visuals, combat system, and player skills. 

While the demo only gives you a small experience to get a feel for the game, the final game will be more densely packed with more loot, enemies, side quests, vendors, secrets, and much more to explore. As much as RealityArts Studio was created by a three-person team, Unawake is already shaping up to please the masses. 

The partnership between RealityArts Studio and Toplitz Productions certainly seems to be panning out well, with RealityArts Studio co-founder Ismael Kemal Ciftcioglu stating, 

“We continue to enjoy complete creative freedom and can fully concentrate on development. I feel the support of the entire team at Toplitz and know that I can rely on decades of experience in publishing and marketing to present Unawake to the widest possible audience.”

Feel free to check out the official announcement teaser trailer, which showcases a sneak peek into Unawake’s dark fantasy world. It features an atmospheric, moody setting with skeletal structures, thunderous clouds, and a gloomy, intense soundtrack to boot. Catch a glimpse of the combat system, including parries, attacks, and medieval weaponry. As well as enemy variety, many in their mutated humanoid and elemental forms.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

Unawake is slated to release in Spring 2024. The game will launch on PC via Steam and current-gen consoles. It’s unclear whether next-gen consoles will have access to the game or which specific current-gen consoles you can expect the game to launch on. The same goes for editions.
