Twitch to Increase Streamer Payouts After Criticism

twitch increases payout

Twitch's payout has been a hot topic for debates for quite a long time. In fact, the purple platform's revenue system often gets compared to other platforms like YouTube. Recently, in 2022, when Twitch announced changes to its revenue plans, it faced backlash from streamers and the audience.

Now, the amazon-owned streaming platform has announced tweaks for its Ad Incentive Program (AIP). As of now, this boost in advertisement payout will have no effect on the subscriptions.

Earlier this year, the streaming platform had approached select creators for running ads for a flat fee. It would pay streamers a guaranteed amount for running ads for pre-determined hours. It looks like Twitch is expanding this program and involving more partners.

Along with expanding collaborations with the AIP, Twitch is also offering a 150% pay hike to display certain ads. Further, creators will now get 55% of the ad revenue from all the ads that they play. The entire ad revenue upgrade has been put out elaborately in an official blog post.

As per a report on Verge, Mike Minton, the Vice President of monetization at Twitch, commented, “We found that a fixed CPM model wasn’t the most straightforward way to share revenue with creators. So we’re now launching a new model that’s not only easier to understand but also increases ad payouts by paying creators 55 percent of the revenue for each ad that runs on their stream.”

Currently, the affiliate AIP (Ads Incentive Program) is only available to a few streamers. Starting in August, the streaming platform will invite more qualifying affiliates to take part in the program. According to Twitch, the new tweaks “represent a 50-150% ad pay rate increase for the vast majority of Creators on Twitch”.

Of course, not all the creators were happy with the changes. Some small-time streamers have claimed that the new system will negatively affect their streaming and they wouldn't benefit much from it. Others are suggesting a pop-up ad system rather than taking over the entire screen.
