Lost Ark: 5 Best Tips for Beginners

Lost Ark is finally available in the States, after a South Korean release in 2019, and a European, North American, and South American release in 2023. I don’t mind the delay, as the MMO action RPG game proves well worth the wait. Players embark on an odyssey for the Lost Ark. There’s never a dull moment thanks to the vibrant land of Arkesia, beaming with lost treasures and pushing you to the brink of war.

It can take a while to catch up to Lost Ark’s unique combat system, so don’t worry if the first few hours are a bit of a challenge. Do feel free to go over our best Lost Ark tips for beginners, preparing you for a soft landing on your first trek into the land of Arkesia.

5. Let’s Talk Classes

Lostark Classes

Classes are a core part of Lost Ark, so it’s prime time to get that part of the game nailed down. It’s also a huge element that can make or break the game, and here’s why. Depending on the class you choose, you can take advantage of different skills that the class specializes in. Some classes are curated for ranged attacks, while others work best in close-range combat.

Of course, you’re free to experiment with all the classes and find out which ones work best for you. In fact, it’s probably best that you change classes as much as you can from the beginning of the game. You won’t have leveled up a class that much, especially when Lost Ark takes a long time to level up. Additionally, some classes will have transferable skills. So, if you find you’ve leveled up a class and then want to change it sometime later, feel free to do so.

With 15 classes to choose from, our advice is to take your time. Finding a class you’re comfortable with is a slow process that shouldn’t be rushed. You can even check out the training area to figure out which class is essential to your style of play. If it’s all overwhelming at the start, perhaps check out the Berserker, Scrapper, or Sorceress classes. These are fairly easy to master, with visually intuitive skills and a good set of combos to give you a good head start.

4. Don’t Stress About Gear

Some games will prompt you to upgrade your gear. Maybe upgraded gear gives you more armor. Or, it just looks astounding and like something you can boast about online. Lost Ark is a different story because upgrading your gear doesn’t quite offer an irresistible incentive.

In fact, you might as well proceed through the game without upgrading, and still perform pretty well without it. Additionally, Lost Ark replaces your gear when you enter the end game. So, you might as well hold on till then to transfer your gear levels into a new gear.

If you must, though, feel free to check out the vendors that sell new gear as you proceed on your quest and kill more monsters. You can also pick up any gear found while playing the game. This is the easiest route to take, given how frequently picking up new gear occurs every hour or so.

3.  Do Side Quests Matter?

Yes, absolutely. Most gamers rarely give priority to side quests. However, Lost Ark offers a good number of engaging side quests that reward you for your trouble. Generally, you should receive more XP points and pretty useful consumables, so why not check them out when you have the time?

The only thing to note is that you don’t have to complete side quests there and then. You can always skip them and plan to return later. The side quests are relatively easy to complete, too, often syncing with the main quests’ timeline.

If you aren’t up to doing side quests at all, then skip them altogether. The main quest will still propel you to the maximum level without causing any fuss.

2. First-Hand Skills You’ll Need

Have you ever been cornered by enemies? Or just felt overwhelmed fighting against swarms of enemies at once? That’s likely to happen in The Lost Ark more than a few times. To escape their grasp, though, you’ll need to master crowd control to come out of it alive.

Ideally, you’ll want to land heavy-hitting strikes on as many enemies as you can. Consider an AOE skill too, which mows down multiple enemies at once. Alternatively, you can stun enemies to give you time to counter. And, lastly, make good use of allies to take down larger groups of enemies.

Most classes will have a variety of skills and special abilities. The idea is to experiment with combos that deal the greatest damage. Don’t worry if takes a while to uncover. Just try out different combinations of abilities to see which combos work in your favor. Then, chain or queue up the skills to take out enemies with ease.

1. Punch a Time Travel Ticket Across Arkesia

Lost Ark tips for beginners

Pressed for time? Why not punch a time travel ticket across Arkesia? It’s a pretty easy-to-miss ability found only at the Triports. These are fast travel points that activate after spending some time on a new continent.

Once active, you’re free to teleport to and from a Triport using a few silver. Most Triports are located along the main quest’s path. If not, they’re only slightly off from it. If you miss it, you’ll have to teleport back to it. So, try not to.

To find a Triport, simply click the Triport icon on the main map or press the Alt key while clicking on the map. While teleporting between Triports costs some Silver, Lost Ark offers plenty of ways to earn Silver. In the end, Triports help you save precious time navigating across Arkesia.
