You Might Not Need To Buy Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — Definitive Edition

Published

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — Definitive Edition is set for a digital release tomorrow (November 11th), with a physical launch following up on December 7th. However, before the enhanced batch goes live, you should probably ask yourself whether or not the purchase is all that necessary.

From tomorrow, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — Definitive Edition will be available as a free download for Game Pass subscribers. That means, come midnight, both Xbox and PC users will be able to get their hands on one of the best chapters in the trilogy. Of course, it does mean having to sacrifice both Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City — but it's something.

Next, Grand Theft Auto 3 — Definitive Edition will go live as a freebie for PlayStation Now subscribers. Again, that means both PlayStation 4 & 5 users will be able to get ahold of the revolutionary PS2 gem — but at the cost of losing Vice City and San Andreas in the process.

Meanwhile, in Vice City…

So, where does this leave Vice City? Well, that's the only downside, unfortunately. If you're wanting the full experience — then you're going to have to buy in to the whole package. But if, however, you've already got a running plan with both PlayStation Now and Game Pass — then you could save yourself a pretty penny in the long run. It just means missing out on one of the three games.

At present, you can pre-order Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — Definitive Edition on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, and PC for $59.99. Vice City alone, unfortunately, has yet to tear away from the upcoming trilogy. That means you'll have to pay full price just for Vice City — even if you're already subscribed to both gaming services.

So, what's it worth to you? Are you happy to let Vice City slide? Will you be picking up the trilogy tomorrow? Let us know over on our socials here.
