If you’re one for snooping around in hotel resident’s private affairs, then you’ll be pleased to know that Lowbirth Games has rustled up something that’ll let you do just that. That’s right, This Bed We Made is a full-fledged maid simulator set in the 1950s—a game in which you will have the opportunity to root through guests’ rooms and unravel their deepest, darkest secrets, all while working to decipher a murder mystery that goes well beyond your pay grade.

As luck would have it, This Bed We Made is just about ready to launch across a multitude of platforms, which means you won’t have to wait all that long to add it to your basket. Interested in taking a deeper dive? Here’s everything we know about the upcoming murder-mystery tale and its characters.

What Is This Bed We Made?

Sophie using vacuum in This Bed We Made To give you a rough idea on what you’ll be doing in This Bed We Made, we will say this: you’ll get the chance to play a chambermaid from a third-person perspective. As such, you will have to perform your daily duties, as well as get to the bottom of a mystery that looms over the rooms and hotel facilities. As it turns out, there’s something awfully dark happening in the Clarington Hotel — and it’ll be you who’ll remove the rug from the floor and unlock the doors to shed light on the matter.

In the words of its creators: “This Bed We Made is a third-person narrative mystery game that allows you to indulge your curiosity about the hidden lives of others. Take on the role of Sophie, a nosy chambermaid in the 1950s, and discover the sinister mystery that binds the hotel guests through the strange objects they bring on their travels.”

Story

You will fill the shoes of Sophie, a nosy chambermaid with a knack for unearthing private affairs and trinkets of old and new. Set in 1958, This Bed We Made will transport you to the inner circle of an unsolved mystery—a tale that will put you front and center in a neo-noir love letter that’s bursting with “love, heartbreak, and murder.”

From what we’ve gathered so far, the story will unravel from the roots of Room 505—an ordinary room in which Sophie will discover the secrets of an unsolved mystery beneath the warming glow of a crimson light. What is it? Are there others involved? Is there a trinket in particular that points to the culprit? It’s time to put your thinking cap on and rummage through some drawers.

Word on the street is, your duties in the Clarington Hotel won’t just tie in with cleaning up basins and sweeping breadcrumbs from duvets, but rather, digging deep into a web of secrets that loom over spectate three floors. As the nosy chambermaid in question, you will need to carry out your regular tasks as to not raise suspicion, as well as examine key items and documents that may or may not contain vital information about a dark and sensitive situation.

“Discover a dark, mysterious and intriguing story with a touch of glamour and murder as you explore three atmospheric floors of the Clarington Hotel,” the description reads in part. “Explore your (in)discreet fascination with other peoples' lives while you inspect their belongings in 360° and solve puzzles.”

In addition to the puzzle solving and exploring that you’ll be doing, you will also need to establish a line of trusty connections with other employees and guests around Clarington Hotel. What’s more, you’ll also need to choose between two allies: “street-smart Beth,” or “book-smart Andrew”—two mutual friends who’ll assist you with your daily tasks and guide you to the next all-important question.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

This Bed We Made will be shaping up for a November 1, 2023 release on both PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. So, where does this leave Xbox and Switch? Well, going by the details that the devs put out a little while back, the game will be coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 4 on December 13, 2023. Sadly, that still leaves the Switch out in the cold. Will there be a Switch port at some point in the future? Here’s hoping. Until then — there are no vacancies, Nintendo.

“While expanding the game’s reach is exciting, it also requires a bit of additional time to ensure a seamless experience across all platforms,” the developer explained in a recent blog entry. “As a result, the game will release in two phases: first, it will roll out on PC & PlayStation 5 on November 1st, followed by the Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 4 versions coming on December 13th!”
