The fusion of action and role-playing elements in Action RPGs brings an immersive dimension to the gaming experience. Players not only get into a rich narrative and assume a character's role but also actively participate in thrilling combat, exploration, and adventure. This combination allows for an engaging gameplay experience. Ultimately, action RPGs offer a captivating blend of storytelling and interactive gameplay, appealing to those who enjoy the adrenaline-pumping action of combat-focused games.

Inspired by some of the developers of iconic RPGs like Final Fantasy, Reynatis is an anticipated action JRPG, promising to join the list of action RPGs. Set in Shibuya City, Tokyo, the game offers thrilling action between wizards. Action games are always thrilling, but when the blows are mixed with magic and a bunch of spells, it's truly breathtaking. The game promises incredible gameplay packed with fast-paced action. As we eagerly anticipate the official release of Reynatis, we have gathered everything you need to know about the game so far.

What is Reynatis?

Reynatis - Announcement Trailer | PS5 & PS4 Games

Reynatis is an anticipated action RPG set in the recreated modern-day bustling city of Shibuya, Tokyo. The game features two wizards, Marin and Sari, fighting against oppression and trying to bring law and order back to Shibuya.

Story

Reynatis follows the lives of magicians in the bustling City of Shibuya, Tokyo. Ultimately, where there are many magicians, a power struggle is inevitable. In Reynatis, the two wizards struggle for power by showcasing their prowess. Similarly, in Shibuya, wizards must keep their powers out of sight for fear of attack from enemies and law enforcers. While the characters struggle with the choice of whether to reveal or hide their magical abilities, some decide to use that opportunity for liberation and maintaining law and order in the City.  Like in real-life Cities, wizards can not publicly reveal their magical abilities, nor can they hide forever.

The story features an anti-magic law that was issued, requiring the residents of Shibuya to follow a night curfew. However, as time passed, the law lost its grip, leading to wizards coming out, either hiding their identities or revealing who they really were. Consequently, some of the wizards unleash their abilities as they explore the city. However, that comes at a price. It exposes them to attacks and pursuit from law enforcers.

Even worse, monsters might attack the wizards. Wondering where these monsters come from? Now, there is this drug in the city, and when abused, it turns civilians into monsters. So, these monsters can identify the wizards and attack them. The story begins with the protagonists, Marin and Sari, facing each other in the streets of Shibuya. In the game, you can choose to conceal your magic or reveal it. However, there will be consequences for whatever choice you make.

Characters

The game features numerous characters. Marin Kirizumi is the protagonist, exploring the nighttime streets of Shibuya. Sari Nishijima is another protagonist fighting to protect the city from the drug that is turning individuals into monsters as she watches over the rest of the magicians. The game features other characters, including the Magical Justice Officers and various Shibuya inhabitants. As we anticipate the game’s release, we hope for more character development from the developers.

Gameplay

the gameplay arena

The game offers unique, action-packed gameplay. The game stands out with its hoodie system, where players can switch between two modes. Players can choose between the suppressor mode and the liberator mode. Remember the two protagonists? This is where their personalities draw the line, since you either decide to conceal or reveal your abilities. However, each choice comes with its own consequences. For instance, if you choose the suppressed mode, you cannot initiate attacks. However, you can evade incoming attacks. The good thing about it is that it allows you to interact with civilians without revealing your identity as a wizard. On top of that, your interactions with civilians help you gather information and embark on quests.

On the other hand, you can just pull the hoodie and reveal your identity in liberator mode. Now, here is the catch: the liberator mode allows you to unleash your magical abilities. Additionally, you can deal massive damage to anyone who stands in your way as you explore Shibuya. The mode unleashes all the abilities of the wizard in you. However, you risk being reported by civilians. You don't want the law enforcers coming after you because it will be a night of endless battles across the streets of Shibuya.

The hoodie system presents a unique experience, adding complexity to the game’s combat situations. Players must choose their preferred playstyle based on the situation. Notably, you should cautiously choose between the suppressor mode and the liberator mode. It's all about being strategic. You can not hide forever, nor can you keep exposing the wizard in you. Maintain the balance for well-rounded gameplay in Reynatis.

Verdict

Reynatis

Reynatis is where magic meets action. Inspired by the developers of iconic games like Final Fantasy, you can expect the immersive, action-packed gameplay that the devs are known for. Undoubtedly, RPG enthusiasts will enjoy the game, especially if you are into action RPG. Furthermore, the game perfectly captures the details of Shibuya City in Tokyo, enhancing the overall experience. On the flip side, there is a concern about the game's audio being limited to Japanese. The publisher should reconsider this aspect, as diverse language options can significantly enhance the gaming experience for a wider audience.
