Kingdom Hearts IV announcement

Kingdom Hearts IV, the next entry in the long-running Disney RPG series, is currently under development, according to Square Enix. The announcement was made as part of a 20th-anniversary celebration that included the premiere of the first trailer.

Kingdom Hearts IV begins the Lost Master Arc, a new storyline for the franchise. Sora is back, but as you can see from the teaser and screenshots, he has a new look.

In the trailer, which shows some gameplay, Sora fights a big shadow monster in the midst of a city street. Quadratum is a new locale in Kingdom Heart, that Square Enix described as

“large, expansive city set in a gorgeous, realistic world unlike anything ever seen before”

Quadratum, as well as the overall gameplay and story, have been kept under wraps. Donald and Goofy will both return in KHIV, as will a new “mystery” new character named Strelitzia.

Kingdom Hearts 3 was eventually published on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch, with the latter being a cloud-streaming version. However, there's no word on what platforms KHIV will be accessible on. Similarly, Square Enix did not announce a release date.

Along with the announcement of the next main chapter in the series, Square Enix unveiled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a new mobile game for iOS and Android.

The mobile game features adventures set in the world of Scala ad Caelum from Kingdom Hearts 3 and battles against the Heartless. Square Enix claims Kingdom Hearts Missing Link will have a new, original plot. The developer however revealed that the game will almost certainly connect into Kingdom Hearts 4. The company did not reveal the release date for the game.  However, a closed beta test for the game is planned for 2022.
