Elden Ring has set a high standard for future RPGs by reaching a massive audience on Steam on its first day of release.

Elden Ring is the latest game from FromSoftware, the creators of the popular Souls series, which punishes players with brutal difficulties and tense gameplay. While Elden Ring isn't a Souls game, it does share many similarities with the popular RPG series. They've opened up the world a bit more this time. Therefore, players will be exploring unfamiliar landscapes and fighting off enemies who are extremely difficult to defeat.

It comes as no surprise to fans of FromSoftware games, but it may surprise those unfamiliar with the genre. The game has received positive feedback from critics, which has given more people the confidence to try it out. On the first day of its release, SteamDB.info recorded a peak of 764,835 players trying their hand at Elden Ring. This is a massive debut for the hardcore RPG, which dabbles in some uncharted territory.

It hasn't reached the all-time highs of games like PUBG and Lost Ark. However, it has etched its name in history by having the 7th highest all-time peak ever recorded by SteamDB charts. There is no doubt that the player count is high.

This is fantastic news for FromSoftware, but PC gamers aren't all over it just yet. Unfortunately, there have been some performance issues on the platform. Reports by players site a number of issues affecting hardware configurations and graphical presets. While the day-one patch appears to have helped smooth out some issues, it appears that PC players will have to wait for some extra love before they can play the game at the level of next-gen consoles.

While I'm convinced that the game will subsequently be fixed to address some of the issues that players are encountering, it isn't there yet. Unfortunately, if you're playing the game on the PC during its initial release, you'll have to really hope you're one of the fortunate ones who doesn't encounter too many hiccups or hitching!

So, what’s your take? Are you among the many who are already playing Elden Ring?  Has it lived up to the hype? Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.
