Best Sorcerer build

Not everyone wants to slice enemies down with a sword, dagger, or axe. Instead, some players like to handle their problems with magic. If that's the case for you, then you'll want to go with the Sorcerer class in Diablo 4. However, because the class is defined under the rules of magic, their build isn't as simple as the other classes. More specifically, Sorcerers' can be built around one of their elemental magic abilities. That being, fire, cold, and lightning. What's more, you can intertwine these elements in your build if you want. As a result, there are a lot of “best” ways to build a Sorcerer.

So, if you're still undecided about which path to take, turn to this guide to give you the best Sorcerer build. In fact, we've compiled three of the best Sorcerer builds in the game, each of which utilizes one of the class' elemental magical disciplines to its fullest. So, take your pick. Will it be fire, cold, or lightning?

3. Ice Sorcerer

best sorcerer build

If you want to build your Sorcerer something akin to the White Walkers in Game of Thrones, then this Ice Sorcerer build will do the trick. Built to maximize the Sorcerer's elemental magic of ice, this build will slow, freeze, and shatter your enemies.

Skills for Ice Sorcerer build:

  • Frost Bolt – Enhanced Frost Bolt – Flickering Frost Bolt
  • Frozen Orb – Enhanced Frozen Orb – Destructive Frozen Orb
  • Ice Armor – Enhanced Ice Armor – Mystical Ice Armor
  • Frost Nova – Enhanced Frost Nova – Mystical Frost Nova
  • Ice Blades – Enhanced Ice Blades – Summoned Ice Blades
  • Blizzard – Enhanced Blizzard – Wizard's Blizzard
  • Deep Freeze – Prime Deep Freeze – Supreme Deep Freeze

Frost Bolt starts off this Ice Sorcerer build. Then we'll go into Frozen Orb for its AOE damage and Chilling effect. These two skills will serve you well at the start of the game, but because we lack movement and protection, we want to pick up the Ice Armour skill. We'll then grab Frost Nova to supplement your base abilities. Apart from the Ice Armour, all of these abilities will be able to chill, slow, and cut through enemies in the early game. But we haven't even gotten to the Ice Sorcerer's best abilities yet.

Once you reach a higher level get Ice Blades, not only because it's one of the coolest Ice-based elemental abilities, but also because it's great for dealing damage. After that, we'll grab Blizzard, which is a great AOE skill that pairs excellently with Frozen Orb to chill, slow, and damage enemies. Once again, we are now lacking protection, or much movement, which is why we go with the Deep Freeze ultimate for our safety valve. And there you have it, the best Ice Sorcerer build in Diablo 4.

2. Fire Sorcerer

The saying, “Don't play with fire” isn't exactly applicable to this Sorcerer build.

Skills for Fire Sorcerer build:

  • Fire Bolt – Enhanced Fire Bolt – Glinting Fire Bolt
  • Fireball – Enhanced Fire Ball – Destructive Fireball
  • Teleport – Enhanced Teleport – Shimmering Teleport
  • Flame Shield – Enhanced Flame Shield – Shimmering Flame Shield
  • Meteor – Enhanced Meteor – Wizard's Meteor
  • Inferno – Prime Inferno – Supreme Inferno

The Fire Sorcerer build is similar to the Ice Sorcerer build, but this time we're dealing with heat instead of cold. In a similar vein to the Ice Sorcerer build, we'll start with Fire Bolt and Fireball as our main damage-dealing abilities. Then, despite the fact that it is not a fire-based skill, we'll go with Teleport as an engagement or escape skill. After that, we'll double down on protection with Flame Shield, but more specifically Shimmering Flame Shield. Because if our teleport is down and you're surrounded by enemies, Shimmering Flame Shield will be your get-out-of-jail-free card.

Lastly, to top off the damage on our Fire Sorcerer build, we'll grab Meteor and the Inferno Ultimate. Definitely one of the coolest ultimates in the game, Inferno summons a fiery serpent that burns enemies in an area for 8 seconds. Let's just say it's the icing on the cake of this Fire Sorcerer build, which is undoubtedly one of the coolest builds in the game.

1. Lightning Sorcerer

Best Sorcerer build

Last on the elemental chopping block, we have the Lightning Sorcerer build. If you want to feel like Thor, or that you have the mighty hand of Zeus at your fingertips, this is the build for you.

Skills for Lightning Sorcerer build:

  • Arc Lash – Enhanced Arc Lash – Glinting Ice Lash
  • Chain Lightning – Enhanced Chain Lightning – Greater Chain Lightning
  • Teleport – Enhanced Teleport – Shimmering Teleport
  • Frost Nova – Enhanced Frost Nova – Mystical Frost Nova
  • Lightning Spear – Enhanced Lightning Spear
  • Ball Lightning – Enhanced Ball Lightning – Mages Ball Lightning
  • Unstable Currents – Prime Unstable Currents

We'll start things off with the Arc Lash and Chain Lightning skills. Evidently, because the Sorcerer class's base lightning skills frame the entire build. However, this is where things deviate slightly. We'll be using Teleport and Frost Nova abilities. Teleport, once again grants us that much-needed movement. And Frost Nova, because we can use it to freeze enemies and land free hits with our Arc Lash and Chain Lightning abilities.

Now comes the exciting part, with Lightning Spear and Ball Lightning. These will be your heavy-hitting Lightning skills, and you should try to prioritize Ball Lightning because it will do the most overall damage of any skill in this build. You should also try to pair Ball Lightning with your Unstable Currents ultimate, as the damage combos of the two skills together will zap enemies down like moths and an electrical glow light.

So, what's your take? Do you agree with our builds? Is there another Sorcerer build you think is best in Diablo 4? Let us know in the comments below or over on our socials here!
