best Necromancer build

The Necromancer class in Diablo 4 is a fan favorite because it plays so differently than the other classes. That is, Necromancers can summon skeletons, summon minions into battle, and explode corpses. So, while they fight your battles, you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Okay, that's not exactly how this class works, but with the right build, it can feel like it. That's exactly why we're giving you the best necromancer build, so you can breeze through Dungeons without ever having to get your hands dirty.

Because the Necromancer class can summon a small army before them, they are the best class for solo play. And there are a few different ways to build a Necromancer to excel at solo play. That's why we're going to show you three of the best Necromancer builds. Two are excellent solo-based summoning builds, while the other is a good combination of the Necromancer's summoning and damage-dealing abilities.

3. Summoner Necromancer Build

First-time Necromancers almost never pass up the ability to summon the dead. Most likely, they want to focus their build on that because, well, it's the coolest aspect of the class. But don't worry, because this Summoner Necromancer build will allow you to summon skeletons, minions, and even an army of the dead.

Skills for Summoner Necromancer build:

  • Bone Splinters – Enhanced Bone Splinters – Initiates Bone Splinters
  • Bone Spear – Enhanced Bone Spear – Supernatural Bone Spear
  • Skeletal Warrior – Mastery 3/3 (Skeletal Warriors: Reapers)
  • Iron Maiden – Enhanced Iron Maiden – Horrid Iron Maiden
  • Amplify Damage 3/3
  • Skeletal Mage – Mastery 3/3 (Skeletal Mages – Bone)
  • Army of the Dead – Prime Army of the Dead – Supreme Army of the Dead
  • Golem – Mastery 3/3

We start off this Necromancer build with Bone Splinters and Bone Spear skills. That's because, while an army of the undead is great, we'll need to fend for ourselves from time to time. So, before we begin summoning, we must first protect ourselves. Now that we have some defense, we can focus on getting Skeletal Warrior to 3/3 Mastery, and the same with your Skeletal Mage Mastery. These skeletons will often be the bulk force of your undead army, so we want them to be as powerful as possible, which is why we max out these skills.

Make sure you get the Iron Maiden skill and that you upgrade it to the Horrid version. Alongside that, we want to get Amplify Damage to 3/3. These two skills work in tandem with each other and significantly increase the amount of damage you can do with this build. Of course, for your ultimate, you're going to want Army of the Dead, because who doesn't want exploding skeletons in their lineup? To top it all off, we get Golem – Mastery 3/3. There you have it, the best summoning-based Necromancer build that allows you to summon warrior and mage skeletons, exploding corpses, and even golems.

2. Corpse Explosion Necromancer Build

Best Necromancer build

Did someone mention a corpse explosion? Admittedly, that is a pretty cool spectacle in and of itself, and one we must include in our Necromancer build. However, there is a lot more to the corpse explosion than meets the eye. Because the skill is so powerful, you can build an insane Corspe explosion Necromancer build that deals massive AOE damage. And here's how.

Skills for Corpse Explosion Necromancer build:

  • Decompose – Enhanced Decompose – Acoltye's Decompose
  • Blight – Enhanced Blight – Paranormal Blight
  • Corpse Explosion – Enhanced Corpse Explosion – Blighted Corpse Explosion
  • Corpse Tendrils – Enhanced Corpse Tendrils – Plagued Corpse Tendrils
  • Army of the Dead – Prime – Supreme
  • Skeletal Warriors (Reaper – Upgrade 2)
  • Skeletal Mages (Shadow – Upgrade 2)
  • Golem (Bone – Sacrifice)

We start this build with Decompose because we need corpses to summon. Then we go after Blight, which is one of the most crucial aspects of this Necromancer build. Not only doe's this deal surface damage, but Acoltye's version has a chance to slow and immobilize enemies, making them easy bait for our Corpe Explosion to take full effect. After that, we get our brute force, which is our Skeletal Warriors, Mages, and Golems.

Essentially, the trick with the Corpse Explosion Necromancer build is to have your skeletal minions on the front line. While they're busy, you're basically looking to pull corpses into battle to explode around the cluster of enemies. The strategy, however, is that you can use Blight to group enemies and then run at them with a Corpse Explosion. Furthermore, you can use Corpse Explosion with Corpse Tendrils to single out the stronger enemies. It's one of the best Necromancer builds, and almost a bit cheesy to be honest.

1. Bone Spear Necromancer Build

best Necromancer Build

Last on our list of the best Necromancer builds, is the Bone Spear build. This build allows your character to be more involved by dealing Critical Strike damage from range, while still making use of the Necromancer's summoning abilities.

Skills for Bone Spear Necromancer build:

  • Bone Splinters – Enhanced Bone Splinters – Acoloyte's Bone Splinters
  • Bone Spear – Enhanced Bone Spear – Paranormal Bone Spear
  • Corpse Explosion – Enhanced Corpse Explosion – Blighted Corpse Explosion
  • Bone Spirit – Enhanced Bone Spirit – Ghastly Bone Spirit
  • Corpse Tendrils – Enhanced Corpse Tendrils – Plagued Corpse Tendrils
  • Bone Storm – Enhanced Bone Storm – Supreme Bone Storm
  • Skeletal Warriors (Skirmishers – Sacrifice)
  • Skeletal Mages (Cold – Sacrifice)
  • Golem (Iron – Sacrifice)

Essentially, this build is designed to take advantage of Critical Strike chance and damage. That applies not only to your Bone Spear but also to your undead army. Critical Strike chance will be increased for your Skeletal Warriors, Mages, and even Golems. So, when everything aligns, which it frequently does, you can take down Elites and Bosses like they don't even pose a challenge.
