diablo immortal earns $24 million

It has only been a few days since Blizzard rolled out Diablo Immortal for mobile gamers. To be precise, the mobile title in the Diablo series was released for Android and iOS devices all across the globe on June 2, 2022. Within a few days, Diablo Immortal crossed millions of downloads. At the time of writing, the game has gathered over 10 million installs.

As one can imagine, the gaming community was excited to have the iconic MMORPG title on mobile. However, the microtransactions in Diablo Immortal stirred controversies and disappointed many gamers. Despite all the criticism, the game was a massive success in a very short time.

Interestingly, Diablo Immortal has earned over $24 million from microtransactions. According to AppMagic stats, the mobile game continues to experience a surge in downloads and in-game spending. Players are spending real money to get their hands on rare items in the Diablo universe.

Diablo Immortal is free-to-play, but to win, you will have to spend some money. Just like most mobile games, players who spend money on the game will have an edge over players who don't.

In fact, a few days ago, popular Twitch creator Quin69 spent about $25,000 to get a 5-star gem. The streamer showed how exploitative microtransactions can be and how much players would have to spend for good in-game items. After Quin69 got a 5-star gem, he proceeded to delete his account and urged his fans to do the same.

Even with this backlash, Blizzard's latest game continues to gain downloads as well as substantial revenue from microtransaction. Interestingly, the majority of the revenue has been collected from the US, followed by South Korea. The US accounts for 43% of the revenue and South Korea has contributed about 23%. Both countries have a large player base.

Meanwhile, as players were disappointed with the microtransactions, Diablo fans on Reddit had called for a ban on Diablo Immortal on the subreddit. Some players uninstalled the game and left it a low rating. Currently, the game has a rating of 3.6 out of 5 stars and a lot of complaining reviews.
