In campaign mode, you follow Task Force 141, a group of special forces from different countries led by Captain Soap MacTavish. The troop is hunting down an infamous leader of the Russian Ultranationalist party, Vladimir Makarov. You get to play as three different characters in the game: Private James Ramirez, Sergeant Gary Sanderson, and Captain MacTavish, who you get to control later in the game.

Modern Warfare 2 is a game for people who love using sniper rifles. It's all about aiming carefully from a distance and being sneaky. The maps are designed like unique rooms in a house, each with its style. To succeed, you will need steady hands and quick reflexes.

What is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 picks up the pieces from Modern Warfare 2. It serves as the third and final entry in the Modern Warfare trilogy. You still step in the footsteps of the elite Taskforce 141 squad. This time, the game includes an added playable character, Yuri. 

The nefarious Vladimir Makarov is still the target after championing terror attacks across Europe. As a result, a large-scale war has now come into play. It's up to you and your team to restore tranquility to these areas. 

Overall, Modern Warfare 3 is for thrill-seekers. It's all about big explosions and exciting moments. The game retains the visual spectacle like the others before it. It also delivers a formidable challenge with brief breath periods between the gunplay episodes. 

Thanks to this, the game has pulled in universal critical acclaim, but internet users revile it. Some users claim it's a bundled version of Modern Warfare 2. Ideally, both games are similar visually; it feels like you're playing a tweaked version of the original game. But some differences stand out. Let's take a deep dive into the gameplay and how the two games compare.

Gameplay

First, let's get the similarities out of the way. Warfare 2 and 3 are first-person shooters taking place in the same setting. Both games include a Campaign, Special Ops, and Multiplayer mode. However, Warfare 2 has a relatively shorter campaign mode. Its successor comprises an extended single-player campaign mode with diverse missions and locations. 

In Warfare 3, the kill streak reward system is more challenging than its predecessor. Plus, the kill streaks are now referred to as point streaks. Meaning that kills don't cut it anymore. To rake in more point streaks, you must complete objectives such as capturing your adversary's flag or planting a bomb in the enemy camp. Plus, the game expands the multiplayer experience with refined mechanics and an extensive online community. 

Moreover, there's plenty of action that awaits you in Warfare 3. The added game modes, Kill Confirmed and Team Defender, make for an exciting and challenging feat. 

Movement in Modern Warfare 3 is what most fans are excited about. You can move faster, bunny hop, or even slide dance. Overall, the game feels more paced than its predecessor. 

Thankfully, the game increases the name tag visibility. Imagine playing in a fast-paced game and not telling who your enemies are. Moreover, Modern Warfare 3 has an added health bar, which is a disadvantage when gunning down your enemies. You need to have enough bullets in the chamber to maim your foes. 

Maps

Onto maps, Modern Warfare 2 features diverse and iconic maps, including Highrise and Terminal, offering a mix of urban and natural settings. In contrast, Modern Warfare 3 introduces new environments, including war-torn cities and underground subways, providing fresh battlegrounds.

Verdict

And now to the burning question: which of the two games takes the cake? Players' preferences often come down to their game-play style and which aspects of the Call of Duty experience they value most. 

Well, both games have their strengths and unique features. Warfare 2 has an incredible inventory of weapons, which Warfare 3 later expands on. But Warfare's multiplayer experience is where most of the action lies. You could easily mistake it for downloadable content. It is, hands down, the best we've experienced in the series and offers various ways to interact through Call of Duty Elite. Plus, the Spec Ops mode and Single Player campaign complement the entire package. This is not to say that the game is without flaws, But it's the type of flaws you're willing to overlook. 

As a result of this elevated gameplay, our scales tip in favor of Modern Warfare 3, however, Modern Warfare 2 is still a delight to play, considering developers built the third installment from its foundation.
