7. Express (Call Of Duty: Cold War Express Map)

CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS COLD WAR Gameplay Walkthrough Part 1 Campaign FULL GAME No Commentary

To start us off,the Express Cold War  is arguably one of the best Call of Duty maps owing to its numerous references and similarities with the Black Ops 2 map. Set in a commuter train station, the map aesthetics bring up a 1980s nostalgic ambience with the use of retro neon signs and vintage trains. Visually, its graphics merge the old school gameplay, maintaining the basics, with modern mechanics, resulting in an improved overall gaming experience.

Transitions between various scenes and warzones are immaculate, allowing players to quickly change position and tactic. The two trains, which are the central focus, offer numerous opportunities for combat. The  narrow corridors are an important feature as they create vantage points and close engagements with the opponents. The game's rapid action demands adaptability and swift moves, adding to its excitement. Though the map may seem familiar, expect plenty of unexpected twists across its levels.

6. Nuketown (Call Of Duty: Black Ops)

Nuketown is a classic and a staple map with a distinct design and compact layout, easily making it one of the best maps of all time. Its features allow for high-action gameplay with its numerous twists and map variations. The map is set in a quaint  suburban neighborhood that has identical houses, an open central street, and a school bus. However, what would appear to be an ordinary neighborhood presents a twist and allows for intense battle and gunplay, which immensely contributes to the pace of the game. Evidently, even in the face of numerous iterations, the map aesthetics remain consistent, and the use of limited game time ensures that the thrill of the game is not lost.

5. Cliffside (Call of Duty: World at War)

Call of Duty: World at War 2021 Multiplayer Gameplay - Cliffside

Cliffside is a classic set in the Pacific jungle, offering a picturesque view of an engaging landscape and an immersive ocean background. The map allows for dynamic gameplay with its various layouts and impressive controls that could easily be considered to have been way ahead of their time. Cliffside stands out due to its graphics, which allow gamers to camouflage with the ruins and foliage. With adequate mastery of the landscape, it becomes easier to launch attacks against opponents.

The opportunities presented for both close combat and long-range ambush potentially allow for dominance against opponents. The Cliffside map is strategically positioned against an ocean, which contributes to the overall thrill of the game. An incredible feature of the Cliffside map has to be the north side, where most of the action takes place, offering an excellent opportunity for players to enjoy elevated gameplay and numerous attack positions. Overall, Cliffside remains a classic that stands the test of time.

4. Rust (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2)

Modern Warfare - Rust Map 2020 Gameplay

Rust is a small-sized iconic map with intense graphics and a multiplayer feature offering a thrilling gaming experience through its 1v1 and 2v2 matchups. Its close-range combat, characterized by various features, creates an environment for a simple yet elevated experience in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare series. The map setting features a central tower in an oil rig that is located in the desert. Sandstorms, which are a present map feature, increase the difficulty levels. This ensures that gamers experience intense encounters with opponents that are quite competitive.

This map's tight quarters mean you'll bump into opponents a lot, making for some heart-pounding, fast-paced action. And that central tower? It's not just there for looks—it's a whole new level of vertical combat fun! In terms of visual clarity, the rusty surfaces and color scheme contribute towards an overall positive experience. Over the years, this map has made an appearance in other Call of Duty titles, which proves its experience has been worthwhile

3.Castle (Call of Duty: World at War)

Call of Duty: World at War - 2020 Multiplayer - Castle

Castle Map is a visual masterpiece  designed to offer memorable gaming experiences while taking players to the World War II era. The medieval castles capture the historical essence  of European battlefields. Notably, there is a balanced layout of both indoor and outdoor backdrops that are aesthetically pleasing. The  central tower acts as a watchtower and provides an advantageous vantage point with access to the entire landscape.

The confined spaces and narrow hallways create a maze that is a great addition to the interior features. This translates to increased difficulty levels and the overall need to incorporate strategic movements that display players  craftsmanship in the control of the battlefield. The close quarter engagements in the towers and the vertical gameplay require dynamic movements, providing  a thrilling experience. However, the increased levels of predictability within the game prove to be disappointing with the increased possibility of spawn trapping.

2. Firing Range  (Call of Duty: Black Ops)

BO1 World Record - 1:50 FFA Firing Range

Players on the lookout for close-medium quarters combat are in for a wild ride in the Firing Range maps. Based on the existing terrain, shooting ranges, indoors, and outdoor backdrops all within close range make for exciting gameplay. At its core, this sequel seeks to test gamers shooting skills, as the setting is a Cuban military training center with interconnected buildings.

This map is a fan favorite, which could be easily attributed to its stellar graphics, a balanced layout, and its potential for intense combat. The gameplay dynamics on this map encourage gamers to identify strategic vantage points in close-quarter battles. I especially love the symmetrical layout, intense game fights, and the central open areas that can cater to team play.

1. Highrise (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2)

COD MW2 Team Deathmatch - Unstoppable Camping on Highrise!

Arguably the best Call of Duty map of all time is Highrise. Featured in the Modern Warfare series, this is an infamous map that incorporates unique scenarios in memorable and iconic locations throughout the game. The vertical design, with helipads, hallways, and construction sites, offers unique strategic depth.

It’s a sniper's haven, to say the least.

This means that players are exposed to locations that significantly reduce the possibility of dominance while increasing spinning opportunities.

The mid-sized map offers varied experiences, keeping gamers actively engaged. I particularly enjoyed the high vantage points, which are a boon for long-range combat. Additionally, the ledges and tight spaces enhance the outdoor combat feel. By limiting indoor areas, players inevitably become more vigilant about potential attack points, setting this map apart from the rest. Furthermore, its balanced design ensures a consistently engaging gameplay experience.
