Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Dominates US Market in Top 20

Updated on

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, despite only being out since November 2020, has officially broken into the top 20 best-selling games of all time. While we can't speak on a global level, NPD Group analyst Matt Piscatella has confirmed the success of the game in the US market.

In a tweet, Piscatella admitted that the one statistic that made his “jaw drop” was the Call of Duty entry breaking into the US gaming hall of fame. With video games dating way back to the 1980s, where the likes of Super Mario Bros. and Tetris still hold their positions, the top 20 has forever been a floating carousel with little room for newcomers. However, after just a few short months, the Treyarch title has reached the pinnacle.

Of course, this isn't the first time a Call of Duty game has made it into the charts. Let us not forget that the top 50 best-selling games of all time also home all three Modern Warfare segments, as well as both Black Ops entries, too. So, this isn't exactly a new accomplished feat for the renowned war franchise. It is, however, an incredible performance from a game that hasn't even celebrated its first birthday yet.

Call of Duty hosts around 111 million players every month, as well as holds several hundreds of international tournaments with mouthwatering prize pools up for grabs. So, we can see why the franchise has kept its head above water all these years. Clearly, there is still a huge following for the series — and this could still only be the beginning.

We'll be keeping an eye on the stats to see where Cold War ends up later this year. After all, we're expecting some pretty big things now that the top 20 has been cracked.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on Xbox, PlayStation, and Windows.
