Best Games Based on Steamboat Willie

Steamboat Willie has been a work of art from the 1920s to today. It’s always been innocent fun. The kind of slapstick comedy you enjoy with spoonfuls of ice cream. But, for some reason, Steambeat Willie and Mickey Mouse is being adapted into head-scratching genres like first-person shooters and horror

Not that I’m complaining. Gaming can surprise you with developers’ ingenious ideas. So, what have developers come up with so far? We’ve scoured online for the best games based on Steamboat Willie currently catching some steam.

10. Screamboat Willie

Purely judging by the name, Screamboat Willie is a horror adaptation of Steamboat Willie. Would you believe the villain giving you a fright is Mickey Mouse? If you ever doubt that he can be scary, Screamboat proves he can.

Your objective is simple. Like most horror games, your only job is to run (and scream). You have to use all manner of wits and thinking to run away from Mickey Mouse chasing you. There’s a radio that will help you navigate the steamboat, and also puzzles for good measure.

9. Captain Willie

Another horror you might want to try is Captain Willie. The story is pretty straightforward and shouldn’t take you too long to beat. But the ride itself will surely be a memorable one, trying to survive a horrific version of Willie.

Not all the jump scares pay off, but the eerie sense of dread does linger while you explore around the ship. It’s a point-and-click adventure that gets you curious about what happens next, even if it ends a tad too soon.

8. Willie’s Nightfall

First-person horror tends to creep me out more. So, it was a delight to discover Willie’s Nightfall’s first-person perspective. The game takes you to Willie’s Company, instead, where you’re tasked with looking for secret documents.

While looking around, Willie’s terrifying mascot pops up and starts haunting you. If you enjoy Friday Nights at Freddy’s, you should have a blast with this one. You know how it goes. Solve puzzles, search for keys to unlock doors, and discover the truth behind Willie’s past.

Because of the dimly lit corridors you’ll be navigating, it’s not exactly a walk in the park. Plus, making too much noise could alert Willie to your location, which goes both ways when you have to pay attention to Willie’s chilling creaks and whistles.

7. The Rubberhose Forest

In addition to Steamboat Willie, The Rubberhose Forest also draws inspiration from Slender: The Eight Pages. It casts you as a cargo collector trapped in a dread-inducing forest. You have to collect precious cargo while being stalked by terrifying Mickey and Minnie.

Simple enough, right? As long as you can collect all the cargo scattered in the forest and bring it back to the dock, you should be good to go. Oh, and run as fast as you can if you spot Mickey and Minnie’s sinister figures in the darkness.

6. A Steamboat Willie

Not all the best games based on Steamboat Willie are horror, though. A Steamboat Willie, for instance, is a purely nostalgic experience with a simple playthrough. You’re steering Willie’s steamboat, moving cargo across ports.

It does have gameplay, where you buy and sell cargo for in-game currency. Plus, an added risk versus reward twist, where some places are illegal to buy/sell cargo. If you take the risk of docking, you might make more profit. But beware of custom enforcers who may seize all your cargo.

Moreover, you can upgrade your ship to carry more cargo and sail faster, thus making more deliveries.

5. Bad Cheese

A more developed psychological horror based on Steamboat Willie is Bad Cheese. You’re a mouse stuck at home with your dad. You have to keep your dad happy by doing chores around the house. And the variety in here is astounding, from bringing your dad his pills to killing spiders.

For gamers with arachnophobia, there’s more to worry about. Apparently, your home also has demons roaming around. It’s not at all an ordinary household you’ve been left to keep functional.

4. Rubberhose Rampage

Action fans also have something special for them among the best games based on Steamboat Willie. It’s a 2D action game, featuring 30+ bosses, 12 weapons, and 11 playable characters to switch between. Your enemies? Cartoon mice that are actually AI chatbots that have taken over the world.

3. Moussacre

Once in a while, you come across a truly creative concept like Moussacre. A hidden gem deserving of your time. Its main character is MouseTrap, determined to steal color from the world. He does so through fast-paced 2D platforming, wreaking havoc wherever he goes.

The visuals are so charming, with lots of surprises. Meanwhile, platforming is fast-paced, with lots of enemies you’ll be slashing past. Mind you, some enemies actually have tricks up their sleeves and devastating powers you’ll need to brace yourself for.

2. Whistling Waters

How about a fishing game for the next entry to the best games based on Steamboat Willie? Whistling Waters, dashed in 1920s rubberhose aesthetics, challenges you to catch fish. Quantity matters for your boss just as much as rare fish. And on a daily.

There’s also a fun steering mechanic, where you have to control your ship and make sure that it doesn’t ram into obstacles. If at all you damage your ship, then you can repair it with upgrades.

1. Mouse PI for Hire

Just recently, Fumi Games set the bar with Mouse PI for Hire. It combines a detective game with action combat, where you complete a single-player campaign, clearing 20+ levels full of mice, rats, and robotic enemies. The first-person shooting mechanics are pretty satisfying, with lots of variety, upgrades, and consumables.

The levels are brilliant, taking you through film sets, disgusting swamps, and through city streets. These are fun to navigate, thanks to a mix of wall-running, grappling, and double-jumping around a Metroidvania-like world. All along, you’ll be solving smaller pieces of a bigger puzzle, while also stacking up collectibles.
