best steampunk games

If you're in the mood for a steampunk atmosphere on PS5, you're in luck. Because in comparison to the other consoles, like the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X|S, we'd say PlayStation 5 offers up the best variety of steampunk games. As a result, you'll come to find every title on this list will transport you to a Victorian-themed era in which machinery, clocktowers, and hard-headed punks can be found in every corner of the world. So, if that's what you're looking for, then read on to find out what the best steampunk games on PS5 are.

5. The Order: 1886

The Order: 1886 - Launch Trailer | PS4

Kicking off this list of the best steampunk games on PS5, we have The Order: 1886. Set in the 19th century in a neo-victorian-themed London, you play as a Galahad, a member of an elite order of knights. He finds himself in the crosshairs of a fight with an ancient foe determined to change the path of history for the worst. Using Galahad's elite skills, and the great help of advanced technological weapons like an Arc Gun and Thermite Rifle, you look to take down the ancient foe, known as half-breeds, and save the city of London.

It sounds like nothing short of an epic narrative, but it only gets more intriguing. The Order: 1886 actually combines factual historical figures and real-world events with iconic myths and legends, all wrapped up in a steampunk atmosphere. As a result, The Order: 1886 is one of the PlayStation's most criminally overlooked steampunk games. So, if you're willing to give it a chance over some of the other better PS5 titles on this list, it will surely surprise you.

4. Circus Electrique

Circus Electrique - Launch Trailer | PS5 & PS4 Games

Circus Electrique is bringing us back to Victorian-themed London, but this time as a troupe of circus performers. When the city dwellers have all mysteriously turned into merciless killers, it's left up to the circus performers, such as Strongmen, Clowns, and Fire Blowers to save the city of London. With over 15 distinct circus performer archetypes to pick from, you must mix and match a team of four that will sweep the streets of London and take down the deranged city folk.

Circus Electrique is one of the few games on this list of the best steampunk games that deviate from traditional FPS or TPS action, thanks to its distinct art style and turn-based combat. Nonetheless, they've gone all out to construct their steampunk tale and world. So, we strongly advise giving the game a try before dismissing it.

3. Steelrising

Steelrising - Story Trailer | PS5 Games

Released just last year, Steelrising is an action RPG with a full steampunk setting based during the French Revolution. In this story, King Louis XVI rules France with a merciless mechanical army. Playing as Aegis, a strange yet extremely powerful automaton, you're the one savior who can liberate France from King Louis XVI's evil tyranny and bring the nation back to a path of decency and righteousness.

With a combat style that takes a similar vein to the Souls-like series, except much more fast-paced, you'll need dodge, parry, and rip apart every mechanical soldier that crosses your path on the streets of France. What's more, Aegis has a wide selection of abilities that lets you define the robot's playstyle. Play as a mechanical brute, a swift and merciless assassin, or a virtuoso of all combat arts.

2. Dishonored (Series)

Dishonored Gameplay Trailer

Still, in this day in age, the Dishonored series remains one of the best steampunk games, not just on PlayStation, but across every platform. Since its release, very few steampunk-themed games have been able to garner the same immersive atmosphere it has. Set in the city of Dunwall, where steampunk-inspired technology and other mysterious forces run the city behind the shadows, you play as a masked assassin who has been framed for the murder of the empress – the one you were sworn to protect.

With the city being overrun by an evil power, a plague raging through the streets, and every man, woman, and machine out for your head, you must clear your name and discover the truth behind this terrible epidemic that has poisoned the city. Dishonored's steampunk theme definitely incorporates more dark and harrowing aspects in its setting. However, it's resulted in one of the best steampunk worlds to date. As a result, we not only recommend Dishonoured but also its sequel. Regardless, you'll most likely jump right into the second game after getting a taste of the first.

1. Bioshock Infinite

Bioshock Infinite Launch Trailer

For our last entry of the best steampunk games on PS5, we have Bioshock Infinite. Being the third game in the series, Bioshock Infinite takes you to the skies where mechanical machinery keeps the city of Colombia and its people afloat. You play as Booker DeWitt, who finds himself in an attempt to save his love, Elizabeth. On top of that, however, he must save the city from an evil government that rules with an iron fist.

Originally released in 2013, Bioshock Infinite is one of the few steampunk games that compete with the likes of Dishonored. And, despite being a decade old, its unique setting and captivating characters keep the game relevant even today. In fact, the entire Bioshock series still holds up as some of the best steampunk games around. Evidently why we got it slotted in first on this list of the best steampunk games on PS5.
