Best Defender Build in Disney Speedstorm

 on

When it comes to choosing a safe class that’ll see you through the majority of your Disney Speedstorm career (and without all the scratches and dents that come with a combat-focused class), there’s nothing more suitable than a well-rounded Defender. It’s safe, simply because it employs a natural defensive edge—a series of perks, if you like, that allow you to withstand thrice as much damage and generate an everlasting invisibility cloak, of sorts. So, hardly a poor choice of class, after all.

Anyway, if you have just started out in Disney Speedstorm, and have yet to settle for any particular class type, then be sure to read on for a few pointers. Need we say more? Here is the best Defender build you can get your hands on right now.

Introduction

There are plenty of reasons why the Defender class is a perfect starting category for newcomers: gameplay-wise, they’re far easier to control, and not to mention transform into untouchable pawns out on the circuit. Granted, their Top Speed isn’t all that great, although they do make up for it in other areas, such as Acceleration and Combat, for example. That said, just because they’re strong candidates in the acceleration department, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re without one or two drawbacks.

At the time of writing, there are nine Defenders in Disney Speedstorm: Baloo, Buzz Lightyear, Elizabeth Swann, Genie, Goofy, Jumba, Shang, Steamboat Mickey, and Celia Mae. As far as boosting starter characters go, you will have the option to level up Goofy in the third chapter of the Starter Circuit. Not that this is a bad thing, mind you, as Goofy actually has some of the best stater stats in the entire game, which alone makes him worthy of your attention for the duration of the Starer Circuit and beyond.

To bring your Defender up to speed and give them the TLC they deserve, you’ll need to source yourself a couple of extra hands. Fortunately, you’ll have access to the likes of Crew Members after beating the Starter Circuit, which of course means you’ll be able to start working on obtaining that perfect Defender build in time for the Season Tour. Question is, who should you pick to maximize your chances of winning each and every track and objective that gets thrown your way?

Crew Members

When it comes to allocating Crew Members to your squad, you’ll want to source teammates who have the power to boost not only your Combat skills, but your Top Speed and Acceleration, too. For the sake of maxing out your chosen character, you’ll first need to ascend to Star Level 5, as this will allow you to onboard a total of four additional Crew Members. Once done, you’ll want to start unlocking Rare members that bring a couple of key cards to the table, such as an Acceleration or Boost add-on.

  • Cogsworth — Top-Speed & Combat
  • Phil — Top-Speed & Combat
  • Humphrey the Bear — Acceleration & Combat
  • Yao, Ling & Chien Po — Handling & Combat
  • James Norrington — Top-Speed & Combat
  • King Louie — Combat & Boost
  • Henry J. Waternoose — Top-Speed & Combat
  • SMRT-1 — Top-Speed & Handling
  • Rex — Top-Speed & Combat
  • Ice Cream Man — Top-Speed & Combat
  • Melon Merchant — Top-Speed & Combat

Of course, these are only the Rare Crew Members, and not the Epic ones. Ultimately, you’re going to want to build your Star Level to a certain point, after which you’ll have the option to recruit the rarest of the rare for your squad. Now, depending on the racer you’re maxing out, you’ll have exclusive access to a certain Unique Ability. In short, these Epic Crew Members will not only grant you access to said Unique Ability during races, but also distribute a set amount of attribute points to each of your stats. So, if you’re looking to acquire that perfect build, then you’ll definitely need to locate and unlock an Epic chip later down the line.

Racing Tips

As a Defender, you’ll automatically receive defensive perks when out on the track. In most situations, you’ll find that orbs contain either the Shield or Cloak boosts—two defensive power-ups that will not only prevent you from onboarding any unwanted damage, but also keep you protected for short periods of time, too. In this case, you’ll want to prioritize avoiding direct conflict with other racers if you can help it, as both speed and combat-related orbs are less likely to make an appearance during a race.

Similar to the Speedster and Brawler class types, Defenders aren’t the speediest of characters, which means you’ll need to learn how to master the initial boost during the opening three-second countdown. More often than not, you’ll find that the perfect biting point is found when the revs begin after one second. Ideally, you’ll want to learn how to nail this sequence before setting out to tackle the Season Tour or online circuit, as a false start will only impede your chances of getting ahead of the pack, so to speak.

Unique Skill

Contrary to popular belief, Defenders can be as equally as powerful as Speedsters, Tricksters, and Brawlers, and it’s mostly thanks to their Unique Skills that each of them bring to table. Simply put, a Unique Skill can single-handedly turn the tide, and often give even the most mediocre or mid-level stat-wielders an immediate advantage over rival racers. However, in order to claim said power and use it out on the frontline, players will first need to rank up their chosen character’s Star Level. To harness the true power of said skill, you’ll need to reach Star Level 5, which, granted, can take a great deal of time on its own.

It goes without saying that, as far as acquiring XP to boost your Star Level goes, you’ll need to complete both Season Tour events, and Seasonal Events. Alternatively, you can try your hand at competing in an online circuit.
