Disney Speedstorm: 5 Best Tips for Beginners

If you’re just getting yourself up to speed with Gameloft’s Disney Speedstorm on consoles or PC, then there’s a good chance that you’ll need a couple of quick tips to give you that little extra nudge in the right direction. Not entirely sure where to begin? Don’t fret — here are five pointers that every newcomer should aim to onboard just as soon as they put their first racer behind the wheel of a kart.

5. Donald Duck Is Everything

It goes without saying that, as a newcomer who only wants what’s best for their buck, the only real option would be to onboard a Brawler. Why a Brawler, and not, for example, a Speedster or Defender? Well, to put it short, Disney Speedstorm, as lighthearted and as aesthetically innocent as it is, is oddly one of the most brutal and competitive racing games on the market, which means the only way to beat it, really, is to play as a character that brings more to the table than a couple of nitros canisters. In other words, a tougher driver who also happens to onboard a barrage of projectile weapons that can not only stun other racers, but put them out of commission for short bursts of time, too.

Once you’ve managed to plough through the first chapter of the Starter Circuit, you’ll have the chance to play as Donald Duck—a character who’ll serve as your very first Brawler. If you can help it, aim to use the Energy Drinks you acquire to level this racer up, as the higher the level, the greater the stat boosts and overall foothold on the competition you’ll have. As you progress deeper into the game, you’ll want to divide as many points as possible to several Brawlers. To start, though, aim to take full advantage of Donald’s potential and weapons out on the track.

4. Drifting Is Key

Drifting in Disney Speedstorm has its fair share of perks, with the most obvious one being the ability to essentially avoid detection and oncoming projectiles sent out by rival racers. It also doubles up as a speed boost, too—a bonus that, if timed correctly, will give you a significant advantage on each new turn. For the sake of knuckling down on the basics, you’ll want to make good use of the drifting abilities as often as possible.

Unfortunately, witnessing the wrath of another racer’s Shot or Fire projectile isn’t something you’ll always be able to evade. To give yourself a better chance of skimping out on the damage, however, you’ll want to keep a close eye on the bottom of the screen for a target icon. If you happen to spot this, simply enter a drift and swerve to break the line of sight. If possible, aim to turn a corner or switch up the route to take an immediate shortcut. You can also use the neon rails to grind your way out of the target zone, too.

3. Don’t Forget the Daily Boxes

As it turns out, one of the only ways to progress further into the game is by unlocking an item called Shards. To obtain these Shards, you’ll either need to earn them by surpassing certain milestones in each of the available chapters, or purchase them directly from the Shop. Alternatively, you can find them in the Daily Boxes, which rotate every 24 hours. Do yourself a favor and log in to unlock one of these crates every day, as there’s a good chance that it’ll include a handful of Shards, or even a litter of upgrades or cosmetics.

Of course, the first thing you’ll want to do once you boot up the game is complete the Starter Circuit—a three-piece series that will essentially give you the keys to your first batch of characters, along with a selection of Shards and other goodies. Ideally, you’ll want to figure out which of the available racers you want to main before setting out, as the bulk of your rewards will be spent on building them up to reach a level worthy of tackling the online circuit.

2. Complete the Seasonal Events

Seasonal Events are another great way to earn additional upgrades and items for your chosen racers. What’s more, as there’s a fresh Seasonal Event to take part in each day, it means you can earn upgrades in tandem with the Daily Box drops; the more you log on, the more you’ll be able to complete and unlock. Simple.

Sure enough, there’ll come a point where the only objectives in the docket are the higher level ones. If you’re struggling to complete these, then either return to the Starter Circuit to mop up any leftover goals, or try your luck in the Season Tour events. In short, you’ll want to max out on every event before moving on to the next.

1. Utilize Your Crew Members’ Skills

Once you’ve managed to earn enough XP and get a couple of Star Levels under your chosen character’s belt, you’ll have access to your first batch of Crew Members, whose job it is to boost your overall stats and give you a couple of extra powers along the way. Now, depending on which of the four classes you opted to take on, you’ll want to assign Crew Members that essentially bring your poorer stats up to speed, so to speak.

If you have taken our advice and chosen to go with Donald Duck for your starter character, then you’ll notice that the Top Speed attribute isn’t the highest. For the sake of bringing that up to speed and creating a more balanced playing field, you’ll want to work towards unlocking a Crew Member that has the ability to boost the stat. If you can gain additional Star Levels, then you’ll eventually have access to even rarer Crew Members, which, of course, will mean even greater stat boosts and perks.
