Best Cyberneticist Build in Starfield

The Colony Way conveniently makes implants and upgrades available to veterans. However, the Cyberneticist background realized the potential of the new biotechnology, merging man and machine to harness the best of both as they make their way through the galaxy and combat their enemies. Essentially, they are high-tech soldiers with gadgets pulled out of science fiction.

However, while Cyberneticists come with three starting skills, they aren’t sufficient to take advantage of the opportunities and overcome the challenges in Starfield. As such, you need to optimize your character’s overall features. Here is a quick guide on the best Cyberneticist build in Starfield.

Best Cyberneticist Skills

Best Cyberneticist Skills

The Cyberneticist Starfield background comes with three starting skills. The Lasers skill enables you to deal more damage with laser weapons, including setting enemies on fire at rank 4. Security enables you to pick locks easily and quickly and hack advanced security systems. The third basic skill is Medicine, which increases the efficiency of healing items, helping you heal faster and easier.

Notably, the Ballistics Certification skill can complement the Lasers skill. This skill increases the damage level of various ballistic weapons, such as pistols and rifles, up to 30% up to rank 4. You can upgrade your weapons using the Weapon Engineering skill to craft higher-tier weapon mods. On the other hand, the Armor Penetration skill helps players bypass enemies’ defenses and strike more damage.

Any adventure in Starfield ultimately gets you in harm's way. For this reason, you may need to advance your protection, and what better way than using the Energy Weapon Dissipation skill? This skill lets you avoid taking multiple enemy shots, thus reducing damage from energy weapons. Moreover, you can use your machinist side fully by acquiring the Robotics skill, which enables you to deal more damage against robots and command them to fight on your side.

Other valuable skills include Boost Pack Training and Boost Assault Training. Notably, they improve your ability to use boost packs and deal more damage when using them, including aiming down sights when hovering in the air. However, boost packs can only carry you so far, so consider getting the Starship Design skill to build and upgrade starships. The Piloting skill can also enable you to pilot higher-class ships and easily navigate space.

Best Cyberneticist Traits

Empath and Terra Firma Traits

Certain traits can make you a better Cyberneticist. However, it is worth noting that some traits are incompatible with others. Moreover, some traits have benefits and disadvantages. To this end, you may need to make compromises in certain instances.

Empath is one of the most suitable traits for Cyberneticists, considering that machines are associated with a lack of emotions. Besides maintaining the human touch, this trait also increases your combat effectiveness when your companions are pleased with you. However, it also lowers your combat efficiency if your friends don’t like your actions.

Wanted can also be a useful trait for a well-armed Cyberneticist. It enables you to deal more damage to your enemies when your health is low, helping you last longer and beat your enemies faster. However, it also causes random attacks by mercenaries. Overall, it is a high-risk, high-reward trait, but not much of a risk if you enjoy confrontations.

Finally, Spaced or Terra Firma are helpful traits, considering Cyberneticists regularly explore space and surface objects. Spaced increases your health and oxygen when in space but reduces them when on the ground. In contrast, Terra Firma has the opposite effects: increasing your health and oxygen on the ground and reducing them when in space. Notably, you can only choose one of the traits, so choose wisely.

Best Cyberneticist Weapons

Cyberneticists regularly launch attacks or come under attack, especially with the Wanted trait activated. To this end, you must have efficient weapons to defend yourself and beat your enemies. Fortunately, there are many weapons to choose from in Starfield, and some are especially suited for the Cyberneticist background.

Notably, the Cyberneticist background comes with Laser as a starting skill, enabling you to do more damage using laser weapons. To this end, laser rifles like Unmitigated Violence would be ideal. This rifle causes frenzy and radiation, dealing double damage to enemies with full health bars. It is also accurate and has a high range, making it ideal for long-range combat. However, it is extremely uncommon and is only accessible by defeating The Hunter in the Revelation quest.

Enemies in Starfield come in various types, including robots, aliens, and humans. To this end, some weapons may not be effective against certain enemies. However, this is not an issue when using a particle beam weapon, as they are effective against all enemies. As such, consider getting Eternity’s Gate, a particle beam rifle. It deals both physical and energy damage, making it effective against organic (humans and aliens) and robot enemies. However, you can only obtain this weapon by looting it off the Emissary in the Revelation quest.

Best Cyberneticist Armor Sets

Cyberneticists encounter various harmful elements when traveling through space and exploring alien planets. To this end, armor sets are essential for keeping them safe.

The Mark I Space Suit Set is the best early-game armor set because of its high defensive stats. Notably, it features 252 PHYS, 264 ENGY, and 264 EM. It also protects against radiative, corrosive, thermal, and airborne threats. Interestingly, you can get this armor set by lockpicking, which should be easy because you have a default Security skill.

The Mantis spacesuit set is also reliable, considering it features 217 PHYS, 185 ENGY, and 201 EM. Moreover, it performs better than the Mark I Space Suit Set against environmental hazards, with 40 thermal, 10 corrosive, 60 airborne, and 35 radiation stats. You can get this armor set by completing the Mantis side mission in the Old Neighborhood quest.

The Peacemaker Spacesuit Set is also recommendable. It is convenient if you have rifle weapons, as it is designed to boost their efficiency. It also offers decent stats, including 157 PHYS, 185 ENGY, and 177 EM. You can acquire this armor set by completing the Peacemaker side mission in the Ixyll star system.
