Anger Foot: Everything We Know

Developer Free Lives and publisher Devolver Digital have announced Anger Foot, an all-new first-person shooter that’ll look to take the meaning of legwork to a whole new level. Billed with a chaotic action-infused blueprint in mind, the upcoming single-player voyage will take players across comic book-inspired realms that go hard on the bloodshed, and even harder on the vibrant aesthetics. Sound like your idea of a good time? Let’s crack on, then.

In its current state, Anger Foot will be gearing up to launch at some point in 2024. And while it’s hard to say when exactly it’ll be ready to grace the market with its various layers of pizzazz, it’s safe to say that things are coming along rather well. What Is Anger Foot?

Oh man, here we go. Anger Foot is an upcoming psychedelic first-person shooter in which you explore the criminal empire known as *checks notes* Shit…City. In said metropolis, you take on the role of a boot-strapped mercenary on a mission to eradicate the corruption that flows beneath the city streets. How is it you’re supposed to accomplish such a monumental task, exactly? Why, through the power of kicking things, of course. Duh.

“Anger Foot is a lightning-fast hard bass blast of kicking doors and kicking ass,” the blurb reads in part — rather excitedly, might we add. “Crash through the caffeine-fueled fever dream of Shit City, putting the boot to a menacing menagerie of merciless gangsters.”

Story

From what we’ve gathered, Anger Foot will follow a similar pattern as Midnight Fight Express, in the fact that the story will revolve around a city that’s seemingly overrun with gangs and wrongdoings, and that you’ll be the one to clean it up. However, rather than seeking comfort with two iron fists and a belt of ammunition, Anger Foot will be a little more hands on. Sorry, feet on, I guess?

“Unleash the world's deadliest feet on a colorful cast of anthropomorphic enemies,” the description adds. “Clearing out slums, sewers, and skyscrapers as you grab new weapons, unlock new sneakers, and upgrade your powers in absurd and wonderful ways. Kick and shoot your way to the exit as you leave behind a smoldering trail of shattered doors, broken bones, and crumpled energy drinks.”

Gameplay

Judging from the footage that has been shown to date, Anger Foot will bring an equal amount of high-octane and weirdly theatrical effects as, I don’t know, Bulletstorm? It’ll be a fast-paced single-player experience, essentially, and will include various bass-padded levels for you to shovel through with nothing more than a few bullets in a chamber and the raw power of your surprisingly durable steel toe cap boots.

According to the guys over at Free Lives, players will be able to switch up their play styles by equipping various types of gear and sneakers. Yes, sneakers. As your preference of shoes will play a huge part in the combat, you will need to unearth and utilize whatever it is that has the power to, you know, foot the bill, so to speak.

“Shit City is a disease and your foot is the cure,” the description adds. “Lace-up a capricious collection of formidable footwear to fight through a diverse series of deranged city districts.”

“Become one with the toes and be quick on the trigger. Your skills must surpass human comprehension if you are to prevail and learn the secret of the Anger Foot.”

Development

From the looks of it, Free Lives has been cooking this one up for just shy of two or so years now. Rather refreshingly, the devs never exactly intended to reinvent the wheel with it, either, but rather add a splash of grease to the cogs and spin it thrice as fast. And that’s, you know, fine. If all goes according to plan, then said wheel should be in line to find its way to the virtual chassis at some point next year.

Yes, there is a trailer of Anger Foot — and it’s just as chaotic as Free Lives said it would be in the pre-launch elevator pitch. But don’t let us spoil the surprise. You can catch a glimpse of what’s to come in the trailer embedded above.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

Anger Foot will be launching on PC via Steam on an undisclosed date in 2024. As for whether or not it’ll head to consoles is still unclear, though judging by Devolver Digital’s history of publishing games across a multitude of platforms, it’s likely the devs will at least give it some food for thought. But who knows? Safe to say that, if it does go on to receive the praise it’s hoping to pull, then it’ll find its way over to Xbox and PlayStation at some point or another. Fingers crossed, anyway.
