5 Underdog Characters In Video Games Besides Mario

Defying the odds and triumphing over their external or internal demons, is a celebratory moment. The lives of heroes may be so hectic, they have no time to celebrate, like in movies and literature. Johnny Bravo, the animated series, is a decent example of an underdog. His machismo does not seem to be enough to interest gorgeous women, his charisma is viewed as arrogance, but he is still widely popular. Overall, his flirtatious failures are laughable and relatable, but his resilience makes us love him more.

Mario, who has appeared in over 200 video games since his creation, can be another example of an underdog. The plumber’s first appearance was Donkey Kong (1981). Depending on what games you play as Mario, you have to save the good-looking Princess Peach from the evil Bowser. It is a story where Mario is destined to lose, but somehow comes out victorious, after fleeing from Chain Chomp, stomping on a Goomba, riding Yoshi, etc. This is a list of 5 underdogs in video games besides Mario.

5. Link: The Legend of Zelda (Series):

Link does not offer the Kingdom of Hyrule unlimited strength or superhuman abilities. He is a boy, with a journey beginning, living with his uncle. On his adventures, enemies may underestimate Link, but whether it is a Master Sword, Giant’s Knife, Polished Rapier, and more, he manages to overcome obstacles. His horse, Epona, may assist him, a Great Fairy may arrive, and somehow, the scrawny Link defies all odds.

4. Dash Rendar (Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire):

Developed and published by Lucasarts, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, is set between the time of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. As Dash Rendar, pilot a snowspeeder on the ice planet of Hoth (where Dash Rendar is trapped) eliminating AT-ATs, AT-STs, and Imperial probes. Wampas will appear in Echo Base and you have to try to escape. There are nine distinctly detailed environments and if Dark Prince Xizor (head of the Black Sun crime syndicate) was not around, you still would look like the underdog.

You do have useful weapons like a Flame Thrower, Disrupter, Rebel Emblem (Extra Life), Invincibility Device, Standard Jetpack, etc. Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire was released or N64 (Nintendo 64) in December 3, 1996 and Microsoft Windows on September 17, 1997.

3. Jason Brody (Far Cry 3):

Jason Brody, both in 1987 in Los Angeles, California, is the protagonist of Far Cry 3. He came to Rooks Island, while on a skydiving trip with a group of friends, but was captured by pirates. If you just so happen to get captured by a pirate and it is not the 16th or 17th century, you are definitely an underdog.

2. Red (Pokémon Red And Blue):

For Red (the protagonist), he has to overcome a multitude of high-stake challenges. Red has to conquer the notorious Team Rocket and their leader, Giovanni. In 1996, Pokémon Red and Blue (with Pocket Monsters: Green) was published by Nintendo for the Game Boy and released in Japan. It was not until 1998, when Pokémon Red and Blue became available in the United States.

1. James “Jimmy” Hopkins—(Bully)

15-year-old James “Jimmy” Hopkins is sent to a private boarding school (Bullworth Academy in New England) for a year, after being expelled from previous schools. During his stay, his mother and her new husband are enjoying their honeymoon.

Dr. Thaddeus Crabblesnitch (the principal) warns Jimmy to stay out of trouble. He befriends senior Gary Smith and freshman Peter “Petey” Kowalski, orchestrating how they will dominate Bullworth’s various cliques: the Bullies, Preppies, Nerds, Greasers, and Jocks. Eventually, Gary betrays Jimmy, leaving Jimmy to fight off Russell Northrop (the Bullies) leader.

Originally developed by Rockstar Vancouver, in Bully, you get mistreated by teachers and other students. Stand up for yourself (playing pranks) as you navigate around obstacles. Develop romantic relationships or lose them.
