Xbox Leak Could Lead to New Hardware

A reputable source, known to the industry as Nick Baker of the Xbox Era podcast, has shed light on Microsoft's long arm of mystery projects. As a result, we're now left to question whether or not Xbox will employ VR in the near future. That, or some sort of new hardware.

During a recent podcast episode, Baker brought up details surrounding Xbox's latest ventures. Unfortunately, the conversation quickly dwindled into evasive answers and a whole lot of backtracking. But from what was said, it did cause a few thousand ears to speculate on what's to come.

“All I was told that I'm allowed to say, is that sometime this year — or I should say maybe sometime this year because there's a lot of stuff delaying things lately, whether it's the Ukraine situation, COVID issues, chip shortages, all that sort of stuff… so I'm not going to say it's definitely happening this year — but, I've been told it should be this year,” Baker said.

“Xbox currently has some hardware to show,” he cointinued. “That falls into a different bucket than people are probably expecting.”

A new model? Already?

Could it really lead to VR, though?

Of course, this could mean many things. For starters, it could very well be a newer model of the Series X/S console. Similar to the Xbox One X/S, it is a strong possibility, and one that we shouldn't sweep under the rug.

On the other hand, it could also mean Xbox is looking to finally cash in on virtual-reality. And in ways, this would make sense, seeing as Sony is fighting tooth and nail to have its PSVR 2 headset hurled into the spotlight as of late. But again, that's just one of the many possibilities.

As it stands, we don't know what it is. All we really know is that, with a little luck, Xbox will announce something soon, without attempting to sugarcoat it in the process. Until that time comes, we'll just have to stand idly by while Microsoft plays pit boss.
