Overlooking magical land in To the Star

Upcoming games currently in development are uncountable at this point. You may be keeping tabs on the most anticipated upcoming games like Skull & Bones and Life by You. However, plenty more easily slip through the cracks, especially indie titles that you probably haven’t heard about just yet. Don’t worry. We’re here to make sure you keep up to speed with all the exciting games in development, including To the Star, inspired by pop culture Alice in Wonderland

So, what has the developing team revealed so far about the game? Do we have gameplay footage or any information on platforms? Well, read along to find out everything we know about the upcoming To the Star

What is To the Star?

Overlooking magical land

To the Star is an upcoming survival adventure game currently in development by Covenant.dev. The game already has a Store page with sneak peek previews into the art and gameplay to expect. For now, we know it’s going to sculpt a whimsical adventure inspired by the beloved Alice in Wonderland. Its setting will consequently feature fantastical universes.

Additionally, we can expect to collect resources to craft useful but bizarre objects. If the project sparks your interest, now’s the time to chip into the development process to have the developers consider your ideas for the game. An Early Access version will launch soon, so feel free to dive in when it releases and give feedback to contribute to the final project’s outcome.

Story

To the Star will revolve around players untangling a deep mystery surrounding a fallen star. It’s unclear where the fallen star came from. However, we know it fell into a surreal fantasy realm you’ll be tasked with exploring. One thing the game’s description stresses is “weirdness,” meaning that you’ll craft your way across a strange world and, from it, carve out bizarre objects. As a survival game, you’ll face dangerous mythical creatures or likely find ways to stay alive in harsh environments.

Check out the full story description via Steam below:

To the Star is a whimsical cooperative survival adventure where players explore a surreal fantasy realm inspired by Alice in Wonderland, craft bizarre objects in their Briefbase dimension, and fight incredible creatures to unravel the mystery behind the fallen star.

Gameplay

Killing snotty in To the Star

To the Star will be, at its core, a survival adventure across a whimsical universe. Fortunately, you’ll have the freedom to team up with friends and family. Your main tasks will revolve around crafting, building, and battling hostile creatures. You’ll also ‘navigate challenges,’ presumably structuring the gameplay toward an end goal.

For a more in-depth overview of the gameplay to expect, check out the game’s key features highlighted via Steam below:

  • Exploring a surreal fantasy realm – Immerse yourself in a captivating and eccentric open world where the unexpected awaits around every corner. Drawing inspiration from the classic tale of ‘Alice in Wonderland,' this game offers a unique blend of whimsy and wonder.
  • Crafting bizarre objects from a wide range of materials: Unleash your creativity with our incredibly flexible crafting system. Combine an extensive array of materials (including tangible emotions!) to create outlandish and functional items that aid your journey. From practical tools to whimsical gadgets, the possibilities are limitless.
  • Building structures in their briefbase dimension: Construct and personalize your space within the magical briefbase dimension. This unique feature allows players to build their own sanctuary in an ethereal, island-like setting, offering a tranquil retreat from the game’s adventures.
  • Fighting incredible creatures with food-induced modifiers: Engage in innovative combat where your culinary choices impact your abilities. Consume various dishes to gain buffs or throw food at enemies to alter their attributes!
  • Co-op for up to four players: Experience the adventure with friends in a cooperative mode. Work together to navigate challenges, craft, build, and battle, making each session a unique collaborative experience.
  • Mod support: Embrace the creativity of the community with comprehensive mod support. Players can modify and enhance their gaming experience, modifying items, creatures, environments, and more.

Development

Developer Covenant.dev will both work on and publish To the Star. At the moment, they’re calling on the community to chip in to the development process with ideas and feedback. They are preparing to launch an Early Access version sometime soon to allow them to “develop the game collaboratively with our community.” In addition, they add that “Being a small but ambitious team, player feedback is invaluable to us. It helps ensure we meet our design goals and deliver a fun, high-quality gaming experience.”

So, if you’d like to help shape To the Star’s outcome, be sure to keep an eye out for when Early Access launches on Steam. Keep in mind that the final game will include more enemies, crafting options, and resources. It’ll likely look a lot different, with hopefully more polished gameplay. The developing team even adds that they may include “a new diving mechanic and an underwater biome, further enriching the game's experience,” in the final game.

Trailer

Unfortunately, To the Star doesn’t have a trailer out yet. Feel free to check out the early concept work for the game, though, for a rough idea of what to expect. While Covenant.dev used AI to help design the initial artwork, they affirm that any direct graphical or audio content is originally theirs.

For now, we don’t know yet when To the Star will launch. Steam states the release date is “to be announced.” With Early Access yet to launch, the final game is likely still a long way off. You can expect to play the game on PC platforms, though, via Steam, with other platforms still unconfirmed.

Finally, it’s still too early to know which editions to expect. Do keep an eye out for any new information via the official Discord server here.  Meanwhile, we’ll also let you know of any updates as soon as they come up right here on gaming.net.
