The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 – Release Date and Title Revealed

Since The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (BotW) announced its sequel back in 2019, we've been holding our breath for the slightest bit of news to follow up. And finally, after what seemed like an eternity, today's Nintendo Direct spilled the beans on everything we've been waiting for. Starting with the greatest unknown of all – what will the BotW sequel be called? We now know the title: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. 

And we didn't just get the sequel's name, but also the release date. That's right mark your calendars because The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is coming to Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023. Then to cap off all the exciting news, we got a new release date trailer. Which looked to show off the verticality of Hyrule, with islands hovering high above the ground. Safe to say, we're in for another mysterious and exciting adventure with Link.

Tears of the Kingdom Gameplay Details

The biggest look we've had into the action of the freshly named sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, came during the E3 2021 Direct Show. The event's teaser trailer featured Link's new corrupted arm, which looks to be providing him with his new abilities. One we saw in the trailer included him halting boulders barreling down a mountain and firing them back up the hill towards Bokoblins.

Other skills appear to include traversing through solid ground and utilizing pools of water to reverse him into the sky. Link is even seen using a flamethrower-type weapon against one of the new foes. A handful of which are shown in the trailer.

Nintendo has proven time and time again, that their sequels, don't flop. And with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in production for the last four years, which will round to five by the time of release, it's a safe bet Nintendo is gearing up for a worthy sequel. As this is now surely, one of the most anticipated releases of 2023.
