Sony Studio is Publishing First-Ever Xbox Game

Updated on

Contrary to what many believe, Sony and Microsoft do actually share a healthy relationship. After all, on the PS5 and XSX launch day, both thrones were quick to congratulate and wish one another the best of luck in future endeavours. Sorry if that destroyed your illusion of the two factions constantly at each other's throats. In the gaming world, surprisingly — there is no bad blood. Most of the time, anyway.

But more to the point of this article — we've recently noticed that a PlayStation studio is working on its first-ever Xbox game. Yes, that's right — an Xbox game. Although Sony has a strong stance on exclusive IP's, the PlayStation faction is finally deciding to buddy up with the Xbox platform for a new game. That game, of course, is MLB: The Show 21.

What is MLB: The Show 21?

For those in the unknown, MLB has shared a long-standing relationship with PlayStation as an exclusive series since its 2006 debut. However, for 2021, Sony's San Diego studio has decided to expand on the series and grant cross-platform players a chance to tuck into the baseball world.

“This is a very exciting moment for all of us as the storied franchise will be accessible to more gamers than before,” Ramone Russell, game designer and online community manager at the Sony studio commented. “We would like to thank everyone at PlayStation, Xbox, Major League Baseball, Major League Baseball Players Association and the San Diego Studio for working diligently to bring MLB: The Show to more users.”

So, that's it. Sony is working on a game that will draw more players in from various backgrounds — and we're all for that. Let's hope we can see the two empires clash together again in the future. After all, who knows what the two teams can produce when put in a room together?

MLB: The Show 21 will release on PlayStation and Xbox on April 20th.
