PlayStation Now Could Be Going Under the Hammer “Very Soon”

For the past year, it has only ever really been about Xbox Game Pass. Even when Sony pitched in to suppress the volley of fire that Microsoft rained down like digital bullets—the spotlight rarely ever parted ways with the green and white. Only now, something appears to be rifling from beyond the smoke of the PlayStation family tree, and it could mean its faded Now service is on track for an upgrade.

Of course, rumors have been spreading like wildfire these past twelve months about the rivalry between Game Pass and PlayStation Now. On one hand, Game Pass is looking to pull ahead of its rival by onboarding every major publisher on the field. But on the other, Sony has shown more interest in adapting to movies and TV, where it hopes to form a hybrid service made up of Netflix and Game Pass.

What is Project Spartacus?

In recent news, gaming insider Jeff Grubb has shed light on Sony's plans to expand on its PlayStation Now service. Hoping to topple its apple green counterpart, the so-called project “Spartacus” will test new features on the subscription platform. And is it goes, testing phases will begin “very soon”, meaning the public will have a chance to sample all the latest goods while Sony irons out the kinks.

With PlayStation announcing another State of Play event for tomorrow (March 9, 2022), it could very well mean a wider eye will be cast on Spartacus. Whether that's likely or not is unclear. Either way, we shouldn't have that long to wait, providing Grubb's predictions ring true.
