It's been three years since the Xbox Series X and Series S were released. It brought with it upscaled images, ray tracing, and better frame rates, ushering in a new era of gaming. However, in the drive to transition older games to newer platforms, Xbox exclusives seem to have taken a bit of a back seat. We seem, though, to be enjoying both Triple-A and indie new releases lately, with 2024 already shaping up to be a terrific year. Here are the most anticipated Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S games for February 2024.

5. Open Roads

OPEN ROADS | Coming February 2024

Open Roads, coming soon to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, is a road trip indie game by Annapurna Interactive you won’t want to miss. It’ll tell the story of 16-year-old Tess Devine and her road trip journey alongside her mother to unearth long-forgotten family secrets and tales of evocative places lost in time. I mean, it’s the perfect setting to bond, argue, and laugh—stuck in a vehicle with the one person who likely knows you the most.

Open Roads transcends mere road trips. Its story itself is a journey. At the start, Tess and her mom are at odds with one another. Yet they set off for miles with nowhere to hide. With the old notes and letters stashed away in the attic of Tess’ house, you embark on an adventure, unearthing every last dark mystery you find. Deep-rooted family secrets resurface. Decades-old heists come undone. Meanwhile, a hidden fortune lies in wait somewhere near the Canadian border.

The best part is that while braving the treacherous road of past tales, you’ll also be building a closer bond between mother and daughter, infusing interpersonal drama and tugging at the heartstrings in ways only the best indies can.

4. Persona 3 Reload

Persona 3 Reload — The Meaning of Life | Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC

The Persona series is no stranger to gaming. So, if you’re a fan, you may want to add Persona 3 Reload to your wish list. Set to release on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms, Persona 3 Reload reignites Persona 3’s (2006) dimming flame. It remakes the fourth installment for a contemporary audience. Persona 3 was an epic RPG trendsetter. So, if the developing team does its job right, the remake will doubtless captivate the masses.

A quick refresher: Persona 3 followed a transfer student awakening with elemental power to thwart the forces that threaten normalcy. You’ll show off your combat skills on the Gekkoukan High School battlegrounds. Meanwhile, your friends will be looking up to you to save them and the world from crumbling down.

Even though Persona 3 is still quite playable, thanks to plenty of ports, you can, at least, expect cutting-edge graphics in sync with the modern age. The gameplay, as well, promises to receive a revamp in several areas, including combat and navigation. We do know the main dungeon, Tartarus, will be given the boot. In place of it will be massive changes and additions to the designs, dialogue and loot. Here’s to hoping Persona 3 Reload delivers on expectations—and then some.

3. Skull and Bones

Skull and Bones: Premium Edition Trailer

Perhaps one of the most anticipated games of 2024, thanks to the many delays we’ve had to endure, Skull and Bones is finally nearly here. The upcoming game is not for the faint of heart. It takes you to a perilous world. Your task is to climb the ranks from nobody to the most formidable pirate kingpin. Fortunately, you have the freedom to ‘play by your own rules.’

Get ready to set sail on a wild adventure. Being a Triple-A Ubisoft release, we do have high hopes for a truly exceptional feature. If you’re a fan of pirate-themed open-world RPGs, be sure to slate Skull and Bones in your must-play games. And in the meantime, brace yourself for heavy naval combat akin to Assassin’s Creed and, by all means, good ol’ piracy.

Release Date: February 16, 2024

2. Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden - Official 'Love, Death & Sacrifice' Trailer

Banishers, assemble! The upcoming Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, after a November 7, 2023 delay, is finally around the corner. You’ll fill the shoes of the Banishers, whose main agenda is ridding New Eden of ghosts. You’ll do so by taking on haunting cases and solving them by mystical means.

Your choices will have consequences. So, even as you tread the lore-rich New Eden world crawling with supernatural monsters and ancient secrets, one thing remains—or a couple, really. Love conquers all, death cometh too soon, and sacrifices will indeed have to be made.

1. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League | Official Justice League Trailer - “No More Heroes”

Unsurprisingly, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League takes up the top spot among the most anticipated Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S coming out in February 2024. It's been delayed multiple times, as we’re already used to by now. But, hey, the Suicide Squad setting out to kill the Justice League deserves all the time in the oven it needs.

As a Rocksteady Studios product, the same team behind the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham series, expectations are high for the high-rise pending launch. It’ll be a spiritual successor to the series, even adopting the same setting: the Arkham universe.

Get ready to play as your favorite Suicide Squad characters, Captain Boomerang, King Shark, Harley Quinn, and more, each donning distinct skills and personalities. While an impossible mission even to consider, get this: The Joker will not only be featured in the game but will also be a playable character of the Suicide Squad. Can’t wait!
