King of Fighters XV

King of Fighters is one of the most popular fighting games in the history of fighting games. The series has been highly praised for its visuals and gameplay mechanics. If you have played the new King of Fighters XV, you know why this game is a fan favorite. So while you’re still riding on the thrilling aspects of the new release, here are five fighting games similar to King of Fighters XV.

We’ve considered gameplay aspects and overall experience playing these games. They’re, without a doubt, set to fill in your spare time with experiences of a similar genre and, of course, wholesome fun. Let’s dive right in.

5. Street Fighter V: Champion Edition

Street Fighter set the bar incredibly high during the golden era of arcade gaming.

In 1987, Capcom released the first Street Fighter arcade game to great acclaim. It’s now a Japanese competitive franchise that has released five main games and several spin-offs. Over the years, the franchise has grown to feature iconic characters with personal stories and intense battles to boot.

If you’d like a recent edition with modern gameplay, you can go for Street Fighter V: Champion Edition. This offers sixteen iconic characters and battles with other online or offline players. However, if you’re interested in the franchise’s history, you can start with Street Fighter II, which is considered the original fighting game to offer authentic battles against other players.

Other crossover games to check out include Street Fighter X Tekken. Here, Capcom merged characters from Street Fighter and Namco’s Tekken franchise. So you’ll more likely appreciate this edition if you’re a fan of the Tekken series.

4. Dragon Ball FighterZ

Dragon Ball is an anime and manga video game franchise that has released many video games since the ‘80s. It follows Goku as he trains in martial arts and navigates open-world environments searching for the seven orbs that grant wishes known as dragon balls. The video game also features a film series of the same name.

Feel free to check out the latest Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot edition, an open-world action role-playing game. However, 2018’s Dragon Ball FighterZ is what had fans shook with its adrenaline-fueled, fast-paced fighting mechanics.  Like King of Fighters XV, the game uses Unreal Engine 4 to display a smooth fighting experience. The graphics of the game are also visually appealing. These blend into a 2.5-dimensional game that falls between 2D and 3D graphics.

Further, you get to choose between 40 characters, most of which are likely your favorite ones in the film. According to most fans, Dragon Ball FighterZ is the best fighting game of all time. But we’ll save that thought for you to decide.

3. Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate

Mortal Kombat 2 Movie

Chances are you’ve played at least one Mortal Kombat game, especially if you’re a hardcore fan of fighting games. If not, here’s to trying out the franchise’s most incomparable Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate edition.

Mortal Kombat is often compared to King of Fighters in the fighting game community. Since the first game was released in 1992, it has evolved to its latest smashing hit, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate. Featuring over-the-top violence, you’re sure to get a new feel of seamless combat styles.

Though the franchise already had an impressive collection of character rosters, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate goes further to introduce newer ones like Rain and Rambo. Moreover, it upgrades the series’ visuals and adds a 4K resolution and a cinematic story mode to boot.

Overall, it’s an easy game to pick up, but you’ll likely get challenging opponents and enough tactful depth to keep aiming high. Whether you’re a newcomer playing against seasoned players, this game will keep you engaged and having utmost fun throughout.

2. Dead or Alive 6

Dead or Alive even produced good volleyball games.

There are many perks to gain from trying out Dead or Alive 6. It’s the latest game in the Dead or Alive series and presents thrilling fighting quests with stylized visually-appealing cartoons.  So, if you’re looking for an easy transition into another long-running franchise, Dead or Alive 6 is for you. You’ll get plenty of costumes to choose from and an easy combat style to pick up.

In essence, you can counter punches and kicks with holds, or counter holds with throws and so forth. And if you’d like to switch up the gear, you could always unlock new ones once you complete the series of increasingly challenging quests. With strategy and quick thinking, you can always deal damage to opponents. Or rather, take up quick preps through the combo training course to brush up your skills.

Further, the fighting styles are a wide variety. There’s taekwondo, karate, professional wrestling, and ninjutsu, all to match your taste. Also, you get a wide variety of characters who sweat, bruise, and bleed as humans do – though not nearly as graphically appealing in the over-the-top violence portrayed in Mortal Kombat games.

Still, the game is a whole load of fun to play. Whether you choose the single-player or local multiplayer modes, you’re sure to experience immense fun dashed in a completely different lore setting.

1. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Winding up with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate seemed like a perfect way to switch things up. Although it does not compare strictly to King of Fighters XV, it represents a great way to incorporate crossover gaming icons in one game.

Firstly, you’d get the best of all worlds from every other Super Smash Bros game ever made, plus various other Nintendo franchises. You may not play them all, but you’ll most likely find your favorite one out of all 74 fighters available on the series.

Secondly, it’s always a great feeling when there’s plenty of content to course through. More so, when it’s perfectly synchronized together to create an engaging, visually-appealing game.

One great aspect of playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is its versatile use. So whether you’d like a party game to spice up social hangouts or want to explore the single-player mode in a role-playing sequence of fast-paced battles, you’re sure to experience the ultimate throwdown of all fighting games.
