Games Around the Corner: June & July

Updated on

Games Around the Corner is a new installment that will introduce you to promising games we just can’t wait to play. Here are the most intriguing titles that you might want to try in the next 2 months.

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2

First, we have a realistic modern warfare shooter that takes place in the Middle East. Contracts 2 puts you in the role of Raven, a contract assassin with deadly accuracy. The sequel takes it all up a notch by introducing extreme sniping, as you will have to frequently take down targets that are over 0.6 miles away. Completing your missions successfully will require immense skill, patience, and careful planning. Each level can be completed in various ways, and there are a ton of sidequests that should add to the playability. In short, Contracts 2 seems like a promising stealth shooter that might appeal to the fans of Sniper Elite.

However, his new investigation slowly took a dark turn, becoming bigger than anything he imagined. Backbone has an immersive pixel-art visual style that really suits the atmosphere, at least judging by . We are expecting a gritty story-driven adventure.

Chivalry 2

Chivalry 2 is a sequel to the well-received multiplayer action game. Here, we will once again jump into hectic medieval battles filled with blood and gore. You will experience everything that marked the conquests of this era: exciting swordplay, flaming arrows, and complex castle sieges. So far, we know that Chivalry 2 will let us choose between 4 classes and various subclasses that come with their own weapons and abilities. Add to this a dozen of game modes and the ability to play with friends, and you got a pretty exciting title at your hands.

Scarlet Nexus

Now, how about a promising action RPG made by Bandai Namco? Scarlet Nexus places you in a distant future when psionic powers are discovered, giving humans extra-sensory abilities. At this time, creatures named Others start descending from the sky in an effort to harvest our powers. The story follows 2 elite psionics: Yuito and Kasane and their efforts to defend the human race. Watching this gameplay gives me a strong Nier: Automat vibes, which is not a bad thing at all. All in all, Scarlet Nexus seems like one of the most promising games around the corner.

Hoa

If you are in a mood for a relaxing platformer, Hoa seems to fit the bill. Featuring a hand-painted mesmerizing visual style, it will transport you into a peaceful and magical world filled with mysteries. Not much else is known, other than this is a story-driven experience backed by an emotional soundtrack. It seems that Hoa has managed to capture the atmosphere of Studio Ghibli anime, which is why we can't wait for it to come out.

This is a turn-based monster-collecting RPG that follows the story of Riders, a group that specializes in taming the magnificent beasts. You will take the role of a young Rider that needs to help Wyverian girl Ena holding Razewing Ratha. This is an egg of a mighty Rathalos that has the potential to wreak havoc on the whole world. Cris Tales

Next, we have an interesting action JRPG from Modus Games. Cris Tales follows the adventure of a mage Crisbell and her journey across the land of Crystallis in search of Time Empress. Crisbell is also able to manipulate time,  letting you instantly switch between past, present, and future to see the effect of your choices. Cris Tales has a distinct hand-drawn style that demands attention, and the gameplay looks great. But don't trust us. Grab a free demo on Steam and experience it for yourself.

The Ascent

Lastly, we have a futuristic shooter/RPG hybrid The Ascent. The game takes place on Veles, an overcrowded cyberpunk planet run by a corporation named The Ascent Group. One day, it mysteriously shuts down, which poses a serious threat to the survival of your district. It's time to go on a mission and find what the hell is going on. The Ascent has a destructible environment, which should give you enough freedom on how you want to proceed through levels. Your character can also be customized with cyberwar that opens up different playstyles. All in all, this seems like one of the most promising new RPGs.
