As One We Survive: Everything We Know

Revelation Games has announced As One We Survive, an all-new post-pandemic survival game that will see aspiring fathers picking the bones of a spoiled America in the hopes of securing their family's wellbeing and safety. And while it won't be shedding its early access skin just yet, it will be gearing up for an eventual launch on PC via Steam. So that's a start, at least.

So, with the introductory words out of the way, what more do you need to know about this independent gem ahead of its PC debut? Well, here's everything we've been able to scrape together based on the information provided by Revelation Games to date. As One We Survive: what is it, and why should you be keeping tabs on it ahead of its loose 2023 launch?

What Is As One We Survive?

As One We Survive is an upcoming top-down survival game set in post-pandemic America, a phase during which those who remain are forced to fend for themselves and their families. However, with limited resources to gather and your own daughter's health in tatters, you will need to branch out and form a community—a bastion of hope that will see in a new era of prosperity. Easier said than done, mind you, what with the stragglers no longer having any form of moral compass to guide them.

In the words of Revelation Games, As One We Survive will feature “a unique blend of survival and colony management mechanics.” Going by this, players can expect to divide their time between scavenging for supplies to keep their family's attributes balanced, and developing connections to help a community flourish under one banner, and within the safety of four walls.

“As One We Survive was born from the desire to share a post-apocalyptic story that explores the human condition in times of great adversity,” the press release reads in part. “It highlights the struggles we face and emphasizes the importance of unity and mutual support in surviving catastrophic world events. This story reminds us that, despite our differences, we all depend on each other to overcome the most challenging of circumstances.”

Story

As One We Survive will cast you as a father during a post-pandemic lockdown. With America on the precipice of collapse and the remaining survivors unsure of which way to turn, you will need to venture forth and secure a future for not only yourself, but for the family that look to you for guidance in such cruel and unprecedented times.

There's one thing that you'll also need to take into account, too: your daughter is sick, which means you'll need to go above and beyond and breach all known security measures left by the fractured government in order to locate the medication you need. The question is, how far will you be willing to go to save your family?

Gameplay

From what we've seen so far, As One We Survive will blend a balanced mixture of textbook survival elements with traditional base building components. As well as being a story-driven game with a hearty narrative set around a struggling family's existence in post-pandemic America, the journey will also depict the country's gradual ascension from the ashes—a venture in which you will play a crucial role in.

Going by what's been stated in the blurb, gameplay will involve scavenging, crafting, building, and engaging in full-frontal combat with other morally conflicted survivors. So, quite a lofty amount of mechanics to boot, and clearly a lot to onboard for anyone who's looking to dabble in a multi-tiered venture with a multitude of pathways.

Development

Revelation Games first lifted the veil on As One We Survive on April 19, 2023, at which point the team posted a trailer outlining its key details and plot. In addition to the upload, the studio also announced that it would be bringing the game to PC via early access “soon.”

“The initial Early Access release will include an introduction to the story mode, allowing players to experience a taste of the game's narrative mode and provide feedback to us,” Revelation Games added. “Additionally, it will feature a survival mode that is a challenging sandbox mode that allows for much longer play times.”

“We plan to include additional story mode content, mechanics, game length, and polish, as well as additional features for the survival mode. This balance of content between the two modes should extend the value and lifespan of the product, providing players with a richer and more engaging gameplay experience.”

Trailer

Fortunately, Revelation Games did in fact publish a trailer for As One We Survive on the same day as its initial announcement. And not just a copout preview, either, but a full-fledged trailer featuring a spool of gameplay elements and key locations that'll be integral to the story. Need we say more? Release Date, Platforms & Editions

As One We Survive will be coming to PC via Steam at some point later this year. A rather vague window, sure. But then, being relatively new on the block, it's understandable, and forgiveable, to say the least. If we're being optimistic about it, though, then a Q3 2023 release could be worth jotting down on the calendar.

We can't say for certain whether or not the game will shape up for a console debut just yet. But if it does head to Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch, then it's unlikely to be in 2023. 2024, if we're lucky, perhaps? Don't quote us on that, though.
