Games Like Dune: Awakening

To state the obvious, we've never seen anything quite like Dune: Awakening. Or, at the very least, few games have attempted to create a survival game on the same MMO scale that developers Funcom are attempting to achieve. That is why there are many unanswered questions about what Dune: Awakening will bring to our screens when it is released. But, if we had to guess, the five best games like Dune: Awakening on this list would be a good place to start.

As it stands, these games are the best there are in terms of survival MMOs, a relatively untapped genre. As a result, many players have high hopes for Dune: Awakening to break the uncharted path. And hopefully, we'll get an excellent, time-consuming survival game as a result. because nothing consumes more time than MMOs and survival games. Since the struggle to survive and grind levels, really never ends. And if you want to get a sense of that before playing Dune:Awakening, here are the five best games like it that should give you a good idea of what to expect.

5. DayZ

DayZ - Official Cinematic Trailer

DayZ began as a mod for Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead and has since evolved into its own full game. Known as DayZ Standalone, or, as the community refers to as “walking simulator.” Jokes aside, it took a long time for DayZ to come to fruition, but it's now in a fully realized state, and it has evolved into a fantastic multiplayer survival game. One that is equally rewarding as it is deteriorating.

DayZ, a zombie survival game set in Chernaurus, is one of the most difficult in its genre. Never mind the zombies; hunger, thirst, and the elements will most likely take you first. But with luck, you'll come across a friendly player in the 40-player servers who will come to your aid.

Nonetheless, DayZ is all about the grind of survival, base-building, and exploring the unknown. All similar aspects we expect from Dune: Awakening, however in a much larger MMO setting. It may not be one of the best games like Dune: Awakening, in that it's not an MMO, but DayZ will surely get you in the mood for the likes of it.

5. Last Oasis

Last Oasis - E3 Release Announcement Trailer

Last Oasis is a nomadic survival MMO, which is definitely treading more along the line of what wear looking for in games like Dune:Awakening. In this MMO, Earths rotation has slowed, splitting the world into two deadly environments. Only a small stretch between the freezing and burning sides of the planet is inhabitable. And the last remaining survivors who claim it as home are selfishly scouring every corner for resources.

The game's world includes ferocious creatures for PvE, a player-driven economy, clan-based PvP, base building, and the most important Walkers. A wind-powered wooden machine designed for exploration, transportation, and intense combat. The Last Oasis is a refined taste, but it has a strong community that keeps the game alive. And it's a good match for the best games like Dune: Awakening, not only because it's a survival MMO, but also because many of the features, like the ones we listed, will also be present in Dune:Awakening.

3. Rust

Rust - Official Trailer

Rust is a multiplayer open-world survival game set in a radioactive wasteland. This survival game may not be an MMO, but it still shares many similarities with Dune: Awakening. Such as base building, crafting, weapons, and exploring other mysteries in the game's open world are just a few examples. However, don't expect these things to come easy, as nearly everything and everyone in Rust is out to prey on your loot and, ultimately, your death.

Rust has been running for 8 years and continues to grow its player base with constant updates and new in-game events. And despite the fact that the game is not an MMO, it does have some servers that can accommodate up to 250-500 players. That's why it should get you ready for the influx of players we expect to see in Dune: Awakening when it releases. With that, Rust will surely prepare you for a similar enduring grind to survive.

2. ARK: Survival Evolved

ARK: Survival Evolved Official Launch Trailer!

If you want to prepare for the massive sand beast seen in the Dune: Awakening trailer, Ark: Survival Evolved is a fantastic place to start. The multiplayer survival open-world game is similar to the others on this list. There's crafting, base building, and clan fighting, but there's one major difference. This survival game has you living amidst primeval creatures that you may fight, tame, and combat. And, sure enough, some are as massive and terrifying as we anticipate them to be in Dune: Awakening.

With that said, we have no idea what to expect from Dune: Awakening's PvE, but Ark: Survival Evolved is a decent place to start. Not to mention, the games a ton of fun as the concept of surviving and flourishing in the prehistoric age is undoubtedly cool. And the host of in-game events and mysteries that keep it in a refreshed state. All in all, Ark is a great place to gear yourself up before taking on the bigger title at hand.

1. Conan Exiles

Conan Exiles - Launch Trailer

As we said earlier, the survival MMO genre is a rather untapped medium. Conan Exiles, on the other hand, has a monopoly on it. The open-world survival and action MMORPG appears to be the younger sibling of Dune: Awakening. And we say that because this title is also developed by Funcom, the same dev behind Dune: Awakening. However, it is not a sequel, but rather a new entry. Implying that Funcom intends to expand and improve on their ideas in Conan Exiles, to produce an even greater survival MMO with Dune: Awakening.

The sandbox game, set in the kingdoms of Conan the Barbarian, contains everything you could want in a survival MMO. You can construct a house or perhaps a kingdom, train your character to become an epic barbarian or strong sorcery and engage in epic siege conflicts. Then there are ancient ruins, loot-filled dungeons, and prospering kingdoms scattered over its vast open world. But keep in mind that evil entities, as well as other valiant fighters, roam these lands and relics.

This is merely scratching the surface of what Conan Exiles has to offer. But hands down, out of all the games on this list, Conan Exiles is most like Dune: Awakening, as it fits the mold, perfectly. And evidently, it's Funcom's unofficial predecessor to Dune: Awakening.
