Blizzard Announces Overwatch Animated Mini-Series for YouTube

It's no secret that video game adaptations have been on the rise since the release of shows like the League of Legends Arcane series and the Cyberpunk 2077 anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The latest one due to hit our screens is a new Overwatch mini-series. Releasing in thee-parts, the animated series is called Genesis and looks to be a prequel to Overwatch.
The series will premiere on the PlayOverwatch YouTube channel on July 6 with the first five-minute episode titled “Part One: Dawn.” The second episode, “Part Two: Innocence” will be released on July 13th, with a longer episode of 6 minutes and 34 seconds. Finally, “Part Three: Rebirth” will air on July 20, with a slightly longer runtime than the second episode at 6 minutes and 58 seconds.
So, the new Overwatch mini-series may be short and sweet, but its trailer has certainly caught our eyes. If you have yet to see it for yourself, feel free to check it out yourself through the embedded link below.
Take Aways From Genesis Trailer
In the trailer, we can get a glimpse of a young Reaper, Ana, Reinhardt, and Torbjorn. What's more, the narration also references life before the Omnic uprising and then steeps into how the war changed life forever. All of this alludes to the idea that Genesis is in fact a prequel. Nonetheless, we're excited about it and what it has in store for us come July 6. Oh, and in case you're wondering. Here are the showtimes for each episode in the Overwatch mini-series:
