5 Best Easter Eggs in High on Life

Easter Eggs are absolutely everywhere in High on Life. The amount of content that keen-eyed players can find is impressive. There are many different references to sci-fi or other genres of film and television. These all range in how spot-on or on the nose they are, but we enjoyed all of the hidden little gems tucked away in the game. So without further ado, here are our picks for the 5 Best Easter Eggs in High on Life.

5. The Game Allows You To Play DOOM (1993)

Eagle-eyed players will be able to notice that when you boot up the game. The game demo you play for a while is actually Doom(1993). This is a fantastic Easter egg. As it allows players who might not have experienced one of the forbears of the FPS genre. It does this during the tutorial of the game. This is an excellent addition as it teaches the game's basic FPS mechanics and allows you to walk down memory lane for a while.

This inclusion into the game shows that the developers over at Squanch Games are quick to pay homage to those who came before them. Any player who seeks out information within the game just a bit more will find plenty in this title that includes aspects from past games. In closing, this little Easter Egg is one with a lot of heart, as it shows players that the developers wish to reference just how far along gaming has come since its inception.

4. Thanks…I Guess?

If players choose to sit and wait following their recruitment seminar into the G3 Cartel. They are rewarded for their patience. However, players who sit for the full hour after Douglas says not to move will find themselves aware they have just wasted their time. Nothing comes of waiting for him. It is just a nifty little time trick that has players being berated for sitting there that long. This is hilarious because gamers nowadays expect to be rewarded for their time. However, that is hilariously not the case.

After players undertake this task, they must forge ahead to defeat Douglas. So this serves as little more than a distraction while the player is making their way through the game. While this may not be the most worthwhile Easter Egg. It shows that sometimes if you take the time and wait. Perhaps the developers have put something in to respond to your inaction in the game. In conclusion, this Easter Egg, while not being the funniest. Is a nice reminder that sometimes listening to what a game tells you rewards you with absolutely nothing, and perhaps that is ok.

It is no secret that the developers at Squanch Games consider themselves movie and television buffs. This can be seen in the multitude of references found throughout all of their games, as well as High on Life itself. Whether it be a line here or there or a full-out reference to a scene, players looking for more things to find in the game will not be disappointed. This category of Easter egg is one that is used heavily within High on LIfe.

Players, at one point in the game, can find themselves within a movie theatre. It is here that they can watch full-length features of different movies. Players will be able to also listen to commentary on the movies by the game's characters. This is a treat for anyone who looks forward to the kind of meta-humor within the game. In conclusion, players can find a movie theatre within High on Life. Players can enjoy themselves while they take a break from playing the game, complete with hilarious commentary from various characters. This Easter Egg is sure to satisfy the cinephile in the audience with this tucked-away treat, one of the fabulous Easter eggs in High on Life.

2. Godzilla Reference

The is a massive Godzilla reference when you go into Cutie Town. Players who are fans of the giant Kaiju will no doubt recognize the fact that it is being referenced here in the dialogue. As well as the wreckage of the town when the player steps on it. Players will have to go into Blorto's Food Stall and buy a specific warp disc in order to see this, however. Once there, you will be greeted by a rather cute and kind-looking host. It is here where things take a turn for the worst. Players quickly realize that by simply moving, they are crushing the citizens of Cutie Town.

For fans of the giant monster, the visual connection is made right away. Players are able to stomp around the town like they were the giant monster, which is always fun. This reference only serves to add more variety to the references being made in the game. In closing, players who have enjoyed any of the Godzilla movies will no doubt recognize this monster Easter Egg and enjoy it.

The developers over at Squanch Games were no doubt certain that their game would receive various reviews from multiple outlets. It is for this reason that they snuck in a cleverly crafted Easter egg to reference this process altogether. In a hilarious bit of meta-commentary on the absolute state of online reviews. The game poked fun and many critic aggregators and media outlets as a whole. In a world where various outlets are seen as the end all be all of the knowledge in this day and age, it's great to see the game industry have a little fun with their critics.

This was done to hilarious effect as the game ripped on Kotaku, Polygon, as well as many other popular gaming sites. This is rather hilarious because of the juxtaposition of the Easter Egg as well as its intended audience.
