Final Fantasy is a franchise that has done phenomenally well over the years. This is partially due to the memorability of the franchise's characters. Throughout those years, there have been many entries into the Final Fantasy series which introduce a new cast of characters. That said, some of these characters certainly stand above others in terms of likability and character quality. 5. Aerith

Starting off our list of the best characters in Final Fantasy, we have Aerith. Aerith is a character who primarily appears in the beloved and nostalgic Final Fantasy VII. It is within this game that most players were introduced to her, and we learn more about her backstory and overall upbringing. Aerith is the last of the Cetra, a race that has been lost to time, that are really adept at using magic. This is how she initially comes across the hero of Final Fantasy VII Cloud, in Midgar.

There are aspects of Aerith's character that players have found themselves resonating with. These include things such as her joy for life, compassion, and many other positive traits. Cloud Strife is a character that, ever since his introduction in Final Fantasy VII has had an amazingly strong fanbase. This is for several reasons, as Cloud is a multi-faceted character that many people have come to love for a multitude of reasons. These reasons include things such as his perseverance and humanity when faced with real human struggles. This makes him really relatable and a character people remember fondly to this day.

With the success of the first half of the Final Fantasy VII remake and the rest of the game being developed, this character seemingly will only get more popular as time goes on. Another aspect of Cloud that makes him stand out is his aesthetics. This includes everything from this now-iconic broadsword to his general outfit and cool looks. Upon our introduction to Cloud, he is in many ways cocky and arrogant. It is only during and after the events of Final Fantasy VII that we see this hard outer exterior put in check. So, in short, for his humanity and iconic status, Cloud is one of the best characters in Final Fantasy.

1. ViVi

For the final entry in our list of the best Final Fantasy characters, we have ViVi. First becoming playable in Final Fantasy IX, this character immediately resonated with many fans. This is due to the fact that ViVi is a black mage, despite being rather shy and reserved, and begins to grow on the player. The backstory for ViVi is also impressively important to their character and allows for players to peer into a bit of the character's struggles and strife.

It is through this lens that players begin to sympathize with ViVi and also come to understand their perspective. As far as the battle goes, as a black mage, ViVi is a staff user and makes great use of elemental-based attacks. That isn't to say that they are all offense-focused either, as they also have many supportive spells which can help in a pinch. So, overall, for both their iconic design, as well as the quality of their character throughout the Final Fantasy franchise, we consider ViVi one of the best Final Fantasy characters to date.
