5 Thing We Know About Everywhere

Back in 2018, Leslie Benzies left his role as producer at Rockstar Games to pursue his own startup, “Build A Rocket Boy” studio. And he wasn't alone when he left. Simultaneously, GTA audio director Matthew Smith and lead programmer Colin Entwistle supported him in his ambitions. Not long after jumping ship, the trio revealed the studio's first title, Everywhere. Which has been kept well under the public's radar since they first split off in 2018.

Benzies worked on several notable Rockstar Games titles, including L.A. Noire, Red Dead Redemption, and the Grand Theft Auto Series. So there's no doubt that Benzies and his team at Build A Rocket Boy studio have the tools to make a fantastic title. Few people, however, are aware of what Everywhere entails for its gameplay. And w And, with a release date of 2023 set, it's about time we spilled the beans. Or, at the very least, what we can gather from them. So, if you're excited about the new studio's first release, here are the five things we know about Everywhere, so far.

 

5. Multi-Dimensional Open-World

Developers describe Everywhere as a “multi-world game.” And the game's trailer gives us a glimpse of what those worlds or alternate dimensions might look like. For example, we can see a round, futuristic city that will most likely serve as the focal point of the multi-dimensional open world. However, there are also screenshots of other worlds and cities in the game that weren't even shown in the trailer. So there may be a lot more in-for the “multiple world experience” than we can begin to expect.

As for what else is featured in the trailer, we can see three different biomes or “dimensions” for players to explore around the city. One is a lush forest, while the other is a molten and volcanic area. Finally, there appears to be a dessert dimension. If you look closely, you can see some floating rocks around this biome, which may hint at the gravitational aspects of the environment. It's difficult to say what influence these dimensions will have on the multi-world open-world experience, but it's certainly more exciting than having one fixed dimension, which we've probably explored the likes of in other games.

 

 

4. Multiplayer Experience

Everywhere's multiplayer experience is another feature that Build A Rocket Boy has emphasized. The trailer teases multiplayer third-person shooter game modes as well as multiplayer racing. Again, with so few comments on gameplay, it's difficult to speculate on what those multiplayer experiences and game modes might entail. Or, for that matter, how far the boundaries of multiplayer experience will extend. We have high hopes, however, that it will be quite extensive.

We say that because, during the Gamescom ONL 2022 presentation, Assistant game director Adam Whiting said, “We want to build a whole new world for gamers, and not just a place to play, but watch, share, create, hang out with your friends, and so much more.” on stage after the trailer reveal. Again, that's a pretty ambitious answer that's shying away from the actual details. However, we hope that the multiplayer experience comes to fruition and gives us more control and accessibility than we can hope for.

 

 

3. Virtual Sandbox

Following suit with the multiplayer experience, Build A Rockey Boy has also mentioned that Everywhere will be a virtual sandbox with user-generated content. Or, in the words of the game's director, Leslie Benzies, “We want the community to build this. We want it to be their world. We want them to tell their stories in their game. I think it's human nature to navigate uncharted territory, to find a place where we're free to explore, to be creative, and to share amazing experiences.”

“an open world that can be built out in any direction,” and an experience that is “more than just a video game,” Benzie adds. Again, it's difficult to predict what that implies with so little detail. However, there have been comments that players can create their own worlds, which is certainly exciting. Furthermore, developers have stated that players can create their own storylines, which we will discuss next. But it really seems as if Everywhere developers are promising the whole world to their fans, as that's practically what they are promising.

 

 

2. Branching Storyline

Everywhere will also have multiple narratives and storylines, according to Leslie Benzies. He even went so far as to say that they “want players to create their own narratives with real-life characters.” Now I'm starting to believe that Everywhere is quite literally trying to offer everything conceivably possible in a video game to their players. Which would undoubtedly be something unique, but seeing all of these ideas come to fruition is something else entirely.

Benzie's comment could be referring to the same sandbox where you can create your own world, but that's just speculation. The narrative, setting, and characters of the game have been the most closely guarded secrets of all. That is the one thing that multiple developers have stated they will not discuss. I'd even go so far as to say Build A Rocket Boy had their employees sign an NDA regarding anything about the game's plot. Regardless, we can only hope for an immersive, interactive adventure, and, just about everything in between.

 

 

1. Unreal Engine 5

Everywhere

We can confidently confirm that Everywhere is being built with Unreal Engine 5. Epic released this engine during the State of Unreal 2022 event for all developers and studios to use on future projects. However, we have yet to see a game built with this engine. Many are slated for 2023, including Redfall and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. 

This engine is attempting to usher in a new era of gaming, and the team at Build A Rocket Boy appears to be making full use of it with Everywhere. As the games also being described as “Real-Life” Ready Player One. So with this in mind, maybe Everywhere really is offering everything under that concept.

Overall, while we have high hopes for Everywhere after delving into what we know about the game in this article, it's difficult to believe the new studio isn't over-promising. Many games in the past have followed suit and failed to deliver on one of their promises, such as No Man's Sky. However, if Everywhere can bring all of its concepts to life, it could very well set a new standard for video games.
