Thirsty Suitors: 5 Best Tips for Beginners

Thirsty Suitors is arguably one of the kookiest games you’ll play this year — and it’s single-handedly making the gaming community fall in love with South Asian culture and, weirdly enough, skateboarding, of all things. It’s a weird mix, for sure, but it’s also one that, when combined into a single concoction, actually works. So, if you’re after a unique experience that’ll stick with you for years, then you needn’t look any further than Outerloop Games’ latest thirst-quenching potion.

Moving forward, if you are after some tips to help you along your journey, then be sure to read on. Here are the five best tips for getting up to speed with Thirsty Suitors.

5. Milkshakes & Mango FTW

When it comes to loading up on consumables, you’ll want to prioritize stockpiling two things: Banana Milkshakes, which will give you a hefty health boost, and Mango Bars, which will increase your WP—a slider that will allow you to use better Taunts and Skills during battles. If you can help it, aim to visit the diner as often as possible, as you’ll be able to bag yourself the odd freebie at the counter. You can also purchase said items for a set amount of cash, which can be obtained by skating around the block and picking up the floating coins.

It is worth pointing out that, while you can obtain the odd freebie from the diner, most items are only available once per day, which means you’ll need to sleep at the end of each day to reset the consumables. Failing that, then you can also skate around in the Downtown or Skate Park regions, as both areas tend to have more HP and WP-based items.

4. Break Some Hearts

If you’re looking to max out on your attack power, then you’ll want to focus on breaking a few hearts and stepping on a few egos along the way. Why? Well, as it turns out, one of the three core personality types is The Heartbreaker—a category that, if leveled up to a certain point, can triple your overall attack power, making you unstoppable in combat situations.

Let it be said that the aim of the game isn’t to force everyone in your cellphone to hate you, but rather keep them at bay as they instigate their advances. That said, if you’re not all that familiar with turn-based RPGs, then you’ll want to send shade as often as possible, as the meaner you are, the tougher you’ll become. Of course, you won’t win any hearts, per se, but you’ll certainly have the power to crush them. So, if you’re all for breaking hearts, then be sure to opt for the insults whenever the chances come knocking.

3. Always Check the Fridge

Once you’ve done all you need to do in and around the town of Timber Hills, you’ll want to head home to bid your father adieu and prepare for the next day. Before you do that, though, you’ll want to check the fridge in your kitchen for any food that might’ve been left out, as this will give you numerous health and WP benefits ahead of the next chapter.

On a side note, you’ll want to do all in your power to max out your cooking skills during the lessons with your mom. If you can obtain a higher score in each cooking class, you’ll go on to create better meals; if you have better meals in your inventory, then you’ll have better HP and WP-boosting consumables to make use of during combat.

2. Don’t Rush Each Day

As everything tends to reset each day, you’ll want to refrain from powering through the story and skipping out on all the collectibles Timber Hills has to offer. If you can help it, aim to travel between the Downtown area, as well as the Skate Park and other connecting zones, before heading back home to call it a day. More often than not, you’ll find that a text message will pop up on your phone, signaling that you should head back to “Talk to Dad.” Instead of doing this, take the opportunity to mop up any last-minute objectives, coins, and consumables.

While out on your travels, you’ll also want to swing by the Diner for your daily freebie and catch-up with the locals. You’ll also want to stop by your Auntie‘s auto shop, too, as this will give you the chance to spend your accrued cash on skateboard upgrades and other nifty items to boost your overall performance. 1. Use the Right Moods

When it comes to choosing which Mood to onboard during combat, you’ll want to prioritize either Heartless, which will boost your overall damage by 110%, of Raging, which will boost it by a whopping 125%. And while the Thirsty and Shocking Moods are both relatively well-balanced, and not to mention loaded with their own perks, you’ll find that, as far as hard-hitting moves go, the former two Moods are your bread and butter. In other words, don’t be afraid to get cold with your opponent, as the crueler you are, the harder you’ll be able to hit.

Sure enough, you’ll want to analyze your foe before making a decision, as not every enemy will want to win your heart. In some rare cases, you’ll have to deal with multiple opponents, some of whom will feature in story-driven confrontations. If this is the case, then be sure to pay close attention to the matter at hand, as a well-placed Mood ability can quickly turn the tide of battle in your favor. For example, if two enemies are arguing amongst themselves, then be sure to fuel the fire by throwing in the odd insult to crush their momentum.
