Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

Whenever I read “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” I can’t help singing the theme song out loud. “Heroes in a Half-shell … Turtle Power!” You know how the song goes. If you don’t, I wouldn’t blame you because the franchise went into a bit of a hiatus. It’s been Paramount Pictures’ goal to bring back the franchise into the mainstream. With the 2023 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem film, they succeeded beyond measure. The film was so successful, in fact, three TMNT goodies are underway. The first is confirmation of a movie sequel to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem film, even though the original film has only just been released.

Secondly, there’s an upcoming Paramount+ series from Nickelodeon Animation and Point Grey Pictures called Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The series will bridge the original movie's events and its sequel. And, of course, our main interest is an upcoming, untitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video game currently in development. It’s still early in development. However, we’ve gathered all we could find about the upcoming game and put them down on our Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem — Everything We Know article for your reading pleasure.

What is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem — Everything We Know

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is a tentative name for an upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video game. The video game will be based on the recently released animated movie. The film took fans’ breaths away thanks to its edgy ‘90 sketchbook art style that mimics a teenager’s comic book drawings.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are no strangers to the gaming world. There have been entries from as early as the ‘90s. Some of the most popular ones are 1991’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time and, most recently released, 2022’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge.

Story

Get ready to go down to the sewers again as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles embark on a brand new adventure. The events of the new game will take place several months after those of the 2023 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. It’s for this reason that even though the upcoming game remains untitled, we’re tentatively calling it Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem after the film.

We can also confirm that our favorite mutant turtles will emerge from the sewers once again to face a new mutant threat wreaking havoc on New York City. We don’t know yet who the new villain might be. However, we do know that the visuals and graphics for the new game will draw inspiration from the film’s art style.

In the film, the writing focused more on the teenage side of the turtles. The actors themselves were teenagers whose authentic and “immature” performances married well with one another. This will likely translate into the video game. However, rather than retell the same story, the new game will feature a new standalone story. This will take a deeper dive into the turtles’ lives and perhaps further into their teenage upbringing.

Whether we’ll get to see the same characters from the film’s cast is unclear. However, a press release confirms that players will be able to “interact with a host of memorable characters” from the iconic series.

Gameplay

While very little is known about the gameplay, we can presume that players will take control of the turtles. Each one will likely have unique skills and abilities. The overall goal, though, will be to take out a new mutant threat and save New York City.

Development

Since 2023’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem‘s huge success, Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures have proceeded to capitalize on the franchise’s upward trajectory with a sequel film, TV series, and video game currently in the works. It’s clear the studios are priming the franchise back to its glory days with revamps in the visuals and art style.

It’s confirmed. Developer Outright Games will take the wings on publishing the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem game. The studio isn’t new to the gaming scene at all. They have experience developing family-friendly video games with thriving licensed video games. They include Peppa Pig: World Adventures, Jumanji: The Video Game, PAW Patrol: Grand Prix, Transformers Battlegrounds, and DC’s Justice League: Cosmic Chaos, among many more under their belt.

“Nickelodeon is one of our longest standing licensing collaborators, and we’re overjoyed to have the opportunity to bring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to life in a brand new and original video game,” said Outright Games COO Stephanie Malham.

As for the developing team, we don’t know yet which studio will be working on the new game. We only have Outright Games’ past works to anticipate, which are pretty solid entries that help ensure the upcoming game is in the right hands.

Trailer

The announcement of the upcoming game is quite recent, and as such, we are still awaiting a trailer to give us a glimpse of what to anticipate in the final game.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

Tentatively named Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is scheduled to release sometime in 2024. We don’t have an exact release date yet. However, seeing as the announcement only paved the way recently, perhaps the game will slip into the latter quarter of next year.

The upcoming game plans to launch on consoles and PCs. Whether “consoles” encompasses next-gen (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S) and current-gen (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch) consoles remains unclear. High chances are the game will accommodate all modern consoles and even go further to feature cross-play. However, it’s only an assumption that remains unconfirmed.

Since the announcement was only made recently, we’re yet to find out how many editions will be made available upon release. But do keep an eye out for new updates via the official social handles. We'll also let you know as soon as new information comes up.
