Pikmin 4 Wins Best Sim/Strategy Game – Game Awards 2023
Simulation and strategy games often provide an alternative to the normal game market. These games push players to use strategy to overcome there levels, often including in various challenges for those seeking to prove themselves in battle. The five nominees for this category were Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, Cities: Skylines 2, Company of Heroes 3, Fire Emblem Engage, and Pikmin 4. Pikmin 4 took home the Best Sim/Strategy Game award at The Game Awards tonight.

Pikmin 4 is a family-friendly game about commanding small creatures called Pikmin. You use them to solve puzzles and fight enemies along the way. While the game isn't as dark or lore field as Nintendo's Fire Emblem: Engage, or as complex as Cities: Skylines 2, it has a lot of heart. Even the more niche Advanced Wars is a solid title that strategy fans shouldn't overlook. The world of Pikmin is colorful, vibrant, and full of fun to be had. Players young and old can easily slip into the game's world making it the most accessible title on the list.
As a game series that is still somewhat viewed as niche, this is nothing other than a huge win. Compared to the other titans that Nintendo owns, Pikmin hasn't been as well received, especially in the west. In addition, the game was released in the summer, at the height of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom and Baldur's Gate 3's popularity. This award can change that as it solidifies it as a fun strategy game. Here's hoping that we will see a Pikmin 5 in the next few years,, and that it's even more lovable than are best strat/sim game award winner for 2023.
