The renowned game developer Hideo Kojima unveiled a trailer for his latest enigmatic creation, OD during The Game Awards 2023.

Speculations about a Kojima horror project had been circulating. The rumors hinted at a horror game called “Overdose.” As it turns out, those rumors were on the right track, as the newly revealed project is indeed named OD.

The first trailer for the game was also revealed at the event and left audiences with more questions than answers. A peculiar montage showcased familiar faces, including Sophia Lillis (It, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), Hunter Schafer (Euphoria), and Udo Kier (Hunters, Swan Song), speaking and screaming in a surreal sequence. However, the footage offered little insight into the nature of OD.

The teaser trailer featured the actors reciting an eerie rhyme with varying emotional nuances, culminating in a chilling scene of a door slowly creaking open, accompanied by a terrified scream.

Taking the stage, Kojima disclosed a collaboration with Xbox Game Studios. He further emphasized that OD is more than a game as it goes beyond traditional labels. Kojima described the game as “something no one has seen before.” He further clarified that it is a game, a movie, and a new form of media all at once.

“It is a game, don’t get me wrong, but it’s at the same time a movie and at the same time a new form of media,” Kojima said.

In addition, director Jordan Peele joined Kojima on stage to announce his involvement in the project. Peele is famous for films like “Nope” and “Get Out.” Expressing his admiration for Kojima and the immersive experiences in his films, Peele teased a collaboration that promises to be “completely immersive” and “utterly terrifying.”

Kojima further hinted at other yet-unnamed collaborators, describing them as “legends” and “amazing.”

While this announcement marks the official introduction of “OD” to the world, Kojima didn’t reveal many details about the game. As fans await further revelations, the anticipation for Kojima's latest venture continues to grow, promising an unprecedented fusion of gaming, film, and a new form of media.
