Games on Steam is a weekly installment that tackles the latest and greatest Indie games from this popular platform. Today, we will learn how to make our own alcohol, strategize in a time loop, and be a perfect chicken spy.

Legion TD2

To start, we have a polished and very addictive multiplayer tower defense game. In Legion TD2, your goal is to destroy your enemy's king before they get the chance to do so to you. This task is simple but not easy, as there are dozens of factions and strategies you can use to earn the victory. TD2 is based on Warcraft 3 mod, and as such you are able to pick between 100+ fighters, all of which have unique strengths and abilities. The result is that no game is ever the same, and you can easily spend hundreds of hours playing it. To keep it short, TD2 is among the best tower defense games on Steam, and it would be a shame to miss it.

Deep Despair 2

Deep Despair 2 is a procedurally generated adventure game that will appeal to the fans of Minecraft. You play as an unnamed survivor that's dropped into a hostile land where it's getting increasingly difficult to survive. To do your best, you'll need to master skills such as farming, building, cooking, producing alcohol, and combat. Speaking of it, Deep Despair 2 features 4 levels of dungeons filled with deadly enemies and challenging bosses. The game gives you a lot of freedom in how you want to play it, and, given the amount of content, it can easily entertain you for months.

Super Chicken Jumper

The world is at the brink of collapse, and you are the only spy chicken around that can save it. For some reason, you also have a katana. Super Chicken Jumper is a mix of shooter and runner in which you'll destroy everything on your path in 6 unique worlds. All in all, this is a challenging game with a banger soundtrack and a great sense of humor.

In Sound Mind

In Sound Mind is for the fans of psychological horror and unconventional puzzles. The game takes you through a series of unnerving memories, each of which uses unique gameplay mechanics and adds a piece of the story. In Sound Mind is filled with bizarre visions that'll make you question your sanity and sets up a dreadful and mysterious atmosphere from the start. Add to this creative boss fights, and haunting music score, and the result is one of the 2021's best Indie horror games on Steam.

Lemnis Gate

Next, we have an interesting multiplayer FPS/turn-based strategy that takes place in a time loop. In Lemnis Gate, each turn takes 25 seconds, during which you can shoot at your enemies, defend yourself, or set up a strategy that will take some time to unfold. This is 1v1, but each player takes control of 5 distinct characters, so things will get complex quite fast. Lemnis Gate rewards creativity and adaptability while requiring that you think several steps ahead. It has a good concept that is very well executed.

Age of Darkness: Final Stand

Final Stand is the newest addition to the Age of Darkness franchise, a dark fantasy RTS made by PlaySide. Set in a kingdom conquered by the Veil, you are one of the last defenders of humanity. To survive, you will have to claim back the procedurally generated territory from the swarm of nightmarish enemies. What makes things even harder are random malices and blessings you will gain, which will force you to constantly adapt. The game revolves around day and night mechanics, during which you will expand or hunt your enemies. In short, Final Stand is an imaginative mix of Warcraft 3 and They are Billions that is as fun as its challenging.

F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch

F.I.S.T. is an atmospheric platformer/Metroidvania that has recently left early access. In it, you take the role of Rayton, a rabbit with a mechanical fist who decided to save his friend that has been forcibly arrested. F.I.S.T. is set in a bleak but beautiful steampunk world where danger lurks at every corner. The combat is challenging, and there are numerous weapons that you can use to create flashy combos. The story is also intriguing and builds up a universe in which I can easily see a sequel or two. F.I.S.T. came out of nowhere and quickly rose as one of the best new examples of Metroidvania.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl

All of your favorite Nickelodeon characters are in one spot, and it's time to see who among them is the most skilled fighter. From SpongeBob Squarepants to TMNT's, each character offers unique combos and fighting style that suits their personality. After you finish all 20 levels, it's time to go online and challenge your friends and strangers. While somewhat unbalanced, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is a well-executed streetfighter with a lot of potential.

The Last Campfire

Lastly, we have a cute puzzle adventure with a lot of heart. The Last Campfire follows the journey of Ember, a lost boy who tries to make sense of the world and find his way back home. Aside from great visuals, the game is filled with satisfying, although easy, puzzles and has a charming story. Overall, The Last Campfire seems like what would happen if Studio Ghibli decided to venture into gaming, and that's the highest praise I can give.

Melty Blood: Type Lumina

We'll conclude this week with another solid fighting game. Type Lumina is a reimagination of the Melty Blood series and features a new storyline and characters. Aside from the offense, combat mechanics is also based on a lot of defense, which adds depth. Type Lumina is easy enough to be inviting to beginners, yet mastering it will require hours and hours of your time. This is a great reintroduction to the series that will appeal to the fans of the genre.
